Hello,

First time newbie, have managed to get this combo working with steam and GWX3 download with the manual resolution change.

After first "patrol 24 hours in this sector" mission I returned to the port and it is August 3th, while war starts September 1st. Please advise as to how to kill this time as painless as possible.

I have no desire to install additional programs or mods such as commander add-on.

Thank you.

If you returned to base? I believe there is several days added before your next patrol.

In real life the first boats were sent to sea on August 19. You can go to Commander and change 'Days In Base' to match that number, or you can change it to 25 and start your next patrol just before the war begins. Once it's started you can go back to Commander and change 'Days In Base' to "Random".

Note: Back in 2004 they announced that SH3 was going to have a structured career somewhat like the one in SH2. The whole community raised a big stink about how great the free campaign in Aces Of The Deep was. They finally changed it to have that freedom of movement, but the '24 Hours' is a holdover from that. In real life you would have been ordered to go to a position and remain there for your entire patrol. After a week or so you could call in and request a shift to a new grid.

Hi Bruno
@Jeff wrote right :" there is several days added before your next patrol".
It is very probable that your next patrol will end after the start of the war.

If you decide to add SH3Commander you will also need to add the configuration files for GWX.
Both applications come with good instructions.

In GWX,
DaysSpentInBase=28

Tnx to all,

When finishing mission 1 you get 2nd august in menus, obviously not really looking forward to spend a month patrolling. But when you start a second mission it actually starts with few weeks delay, so it was ok. Not very intuitive though.Complete newbie but have finished few patrols and came back with 12.000 tonnage at a nice -200 renown award.

Good game but unstable, had many CTD.

You have the 4gb patch installed ?

GWX is very stable usually. I have had a few CTDs but then have MFM added to mine plus a few other ships which stretches my pc

@Bruno Rizzo: Did you follow the savegame condition recommendations in the GWX manual to avoid corruptions? Unfortunately SH3 still has some leftover bugs in that area. The rules when to save are quite a hindrance but it has served many well and a long time to play out entire carreers.

It is manageable by assigning every new mission a new save and than I overwrite that save after every event like sinking or reaching some far off area.

Overwriting a savegame is not recommended as there are reports of corruption doing it this way. Using new/sequential savegame file(name)s is better. I have not had savegame corruptions that way. When I did it could be attributed to other reasons (saving with unrendered objects in the vicinity).

Can confirm that having subsequent save games + patching to 4GB solved CTD issues for now.

I can run at 4096 time compression no problem.
