July 1943 and have had a decent patrol. Hit 2 convoys, first had 2 troop ship in so sunk those. Saved well after first convoy. Hit 2nd convoy and expended all torpedos, got away fine. Saved again well away from convoy battle. En route back to Lorient and CTD. Doh

Have tried loading 2nd save around 6 times so far. Gets to "not so long ago" then CTDs.

Just checking any ideas before roll back to save 1.

Windows 7 and run as administrator.
4gb patch installed.

Hi Bigboywooly a fellow Leeds Fan if your using GWX are you also using the
Commander mod config patch I know you were part of the GWX devs but I just thought id ask that question ya aint been at sea for a while bud
and the GWX Config file may have slipped your mind

ive had same crashes in my GWX steel sharks campaign sometimes it loads other times it wont so ive loaded my campaign game career save just through
SH3 no Commander mod returned to Lorient then saved career came out of game fired up Commander mod launched SH3/GWX & it worked there I am in Lorient ready for my next patrol back on a even keel so to speak

Nah have tried without commander too. Still don't want to know.
Never usually save, if CTDs just run patrol again. Had a premonition this time as added in a few more units.
Know it isnt those as sank 2 of them in the convoy escorts so can't remove that mod and try.

Thanx for the help anyway

did you add those units to your game while in mid patrol if so that could be why its crashing

at the sharks clan when I write a campaign update and members update campaign folder in mid patrol not while back in port game crashes

you might have to restart your patrol from scratch or your 1st save

best of luck ALAW Up da Swindon Whites n Newton Aycliffe ones two

Nah they were added in before started patrol. Never add anything mid patrol as you say usually crashes.

Will try again tomorrow if no luck bite the bullet and load save one.

I would also highly recommend Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode. It won't help on your current save but hopefully will for future ones. I have Windows 7 and run GWX and this cured 99% of my failures to load saves.

Here's a funny thing: The last time I had one fail to load I must have tried it 20 times or more with no success. Then, in desperation, during the loading screen I pressed alt+tab to switch to my Task Manager which I had open in the background and the darned thing successfully loaded. Never know, might work for you too.
