2001. The movie that foresaw by half a century the slogan "Windows as a service".

for the longest time, 2001 was my all time favorite movie. I went to see it at the theater in 1968 with my dad and must have rewatched it 50 times since then, up to the point where I can see all the flaws in the movie.

RIP, mr. Rain. :salute:

RIP, Mr. Rain...

This reminded me of when a company I was working for decided to merge with another company and, because the newly merged corporation would be headquartered in San Diego, a lot of the Los Angeles employees would either have to move to SD or take a severance package. One of the persons in my department decided to retire and, since he was a very well liked fellow employee, the rest of decide to give him a festive final day. The guy's name was Dave and one of the execs came up with the idea of substituting the default sound file for the OS functions and alarms with sound bites from HAL I was tasked with find all the HAL sound files on the Web, downloading them, and, with the assistance of the exec, who got me Dave's password, the files were copied to the appropriate locations in Dave's PC. We all got a laugh at Dave's surprise when, instead of the usual beeps and boops, his computer talked back to him in the 'reassuring' voice of HAL...

Does anyone else recall how much was made of the name HAL is just one letter down, in the alphabet , from IBM?...

Yes, I believe Kubrick or maybe Arthur C. Clarke said it was unplanned, but it does seem too much of a coincidence.
