View Full Version : Swamped Engines in Heavy Seas

Hello everyone.

I think this is a common bug in Silent Hunter 3 that I have run into. Basically when the ocean waves get really high my uboat sinks to 10 meters or lower while on the surface. My engines constantly konk out as if they cannot decide whether to switch to electric power or not. It is happening more often in my campaign making travel on the surface almost impossible. Any way to avoid this aside from not running on the surface in heavy seas?

Time compression probably has adverse effects. Did you try reducing the time compression during times of transit?

I do use Time Compression often when travelling long distances. Is that really the reason for my engines switching on and off on the surface? I thought it was the weather causing my ship to plunge to ten to eleven meters underwater constantly. I will see if using time compression less resolves the issue.

Yes, but with higher time compression the boat makes larger leaps through the water because of the longer time interval. Which can result in rougher and deeper jumps into the waves. You know, the frantic twitching of the boat. It's the nature of numerical integration, math techniques and such.
