View Full Version : Stange bug upon starting SH5 TWoS

Hello there.
I tried installing the TWoS patch and it worked, however whenever I try to start the game, I get hit with these 2 UIs and I cannot get past this! I pressed Yes/No/Accept many times, reinstalled the game and the patch, did everything but for some reason I cannot remove these 2 UIs.

I would like some assistance! The game does start and seems to work however I have these small bugs that are preventing me from playing!
I can play the vanilla game without mods and it actually runs.

You must do a complete clean re-install that means remove the folder from documents library the SH5 folder in your documents library . and any traces of U-play saved games . I suggest you use CC cleaner to completely clean your comp read these post from the Berster

Do you have other MODS enabled besides twos -- this will also cause this problem -- what is your MODS list as is with these problems now .. copy and paste the list here !!

I had this same problem before TWOS and when MOD soups were enormous and the reason why was because of duplicate files. I suggest you download CC cleaner read bursters post, remove the game and any traces of it then run cc cleaner and re-install -- Follow Direction's completely on setting up the option py after install and how to to do it properly than start doing this :)) I am feeling so guilty after killing 7 ships in one nite

Clean install, did everything. Ran Ccleaner, restarted my PC..still the bug.

gonna get the steam version 2morrow and i'll see what happens

btw: no i had no other mods, i did a first time install with SH5 and it never worked.

Start your game by running SH5.exe directly from your install folder with full administration rights.

The solution with grafic glitches in WoS is this most of the time:
Quit game, delete all xxxx_draggables.TDW in your main game folder and restart.


The very first time after install, or next time you make changes in your mods you must also delete these ones and restart game if glitches show-up. And always with Admin Rights as said above.

The problem is that he probably doesn't have those file in his main install folder...

If it's that then I guess the Generic Patcher and OFEV are not pointing to his install and Menu directory and he must redo it.

I don't think so. This has something to do with write protected install location or administration rights. It's a system problem commonly encountered with people who don't understand their OS quite well...

Yes, I was assuming his location is not write-protected...
I don't know if with U-Play someone has the choice of installing in a non-write-protected location, if yes, OP, then install the game in e.g. C:\Games\SH5, this would be a folder where you have free access at any time (although I don't know about Win10...).

I have the same problem, all other things work but i have those pop up window. And i cant close them. Can anyone have a idea how to fix this? Tnx

Go in your main game dir, delete all xxxx_draggables.TDW files and restart. If your sh5.exe does run in Admin Rights and your game folder is not write-protected, then this is the only reason for a grafic glitch AFAIK. I assume you did install and update the game correctly, also the TWoS mod. Then maybe you also need to set your antivirus not to block your game files.


Guys, everyone posting such kind of problems should google about what is a 'protected folder' in Windows and why you should install 'older' games in a non-protected folder. A little more than just basic computer knowledge is necessary to run SH5 and its mods. Besides, most if not all problem solvings are treated in the sticky posts or the sticky tutorials.

Hi everyone!


I have just encountered this problem however BUT not in the same way as the original poster and I am trying to figure out why/how it happened so I don't have to go through a fresh install every time this happens (hopefully I can stop it from happening).


How this happened.


1. I installed SH5. Played several times over a few days.

2. Installed TWOS. (Followed the instructions) (Full install not upgrade).
3. I have played the game many times (new campaign start).
4. Last night I loaded the game to play a little before bed and I had this exact issue happen. Two menu options show up when game is at the main menu and you cannot shut them down.


Any ideas on how this could happen?
Game is NOT installed on C: drive and was run with administrative rights!
