View Full Version : Stadimeter trouble?
Hi,
Playing TMOWTW for the moment, and everytime I use the stadimeter the distance is off by far.
Of course this is the right boat identified in the id boat manual… and distance is always too long.
(Before sending data to tdc I always click to get the red PK)
Is the stadi broken in this mod?
Using those mods:
TMOwTw 2.50
1_TMO_25_small_patch
wTw 2.50 Max Optics with Crosshair
16 Webster's Eliminate Floating Plankton
6 Bigger Better Protractors
Convoy Routes TMO 2.0
11 Pacific Sound Mod
12 Stop The Shouting
wTw 2.50 No Sub Underwater Marker

It's not that the mod(s) are "broken"....the Stock game is broken!
The mods you've listed do not attempt to correct the Stock game.....so, you've got differing Range calculations coming from the manual use Stadimeter, when compared to map measurements, or especially Range findings from other AI sources like Sonar.
If you were to use the Sonar Station as your source of gaining Range to a target (following the procedure of sending a "ping" on a relative bearing to a suspected target; getting the repeat "ping" returned; then "Send" the found Range to the TDC) you'd get accurate, down to the meter accurate Range calculation! But, when compared to the visual Stadimeter process that's provided only when you are using "Manual Targeting"...….You'll not find the two Range calculations are the same. Sometimes, to the point of finding the Stadimeter found Range is off by half the true distance (either higher or lower in distance)!!
My "Optical Targeting Correction (www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181172)" corrects the errors found in the Stock game, giving you a reasonably accurate stadimeter found Range.
The only trouble, I don't have an OTC version for the "Training Wheels" mod for TMO 2.5.
I suggest you cleanout your mod list, run a 'Compare Snapshot" from JSGME on your Stock game files (or completely reinstall), delete your Documents/SH4 folder, then use the regular TMO 2.5, plus it's " Small Patch".
After that, use "THIS (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=4051)" version of OTC for the above two mods. I'm going out on a limb (I don't know for sure), but those other "visual" mods in your list MAY be fine to use. However the "wTw 2.50 Max Optics with Crosshair" won't be needed....it's already in OTC.
Thanks a lot for those informations !
I’ve been away for too long time to remember everything …
As TMOWTW is only a TMO light or tuned down, I think I could use your last link of OTC as it is for TMO 2.5…and remove the Max Optics with crosshair.
I will report back if stadimeter will be fixed :salute:
Strangely, using TMOWTW alone, stadimeter is not that broken…
Using TMOWTW + OTC for TMO, stadimeter is perfect…
Only thing that bother me with OTC is the deck view fov ; submarine looks so short, the crew man is really close to me, and can’T see sun around 12 o’clock…
But as stated by the author, that’s game feature with no turn around.
Great thing about OTC is you can enter a firing solution without locking a target… works great!
