If this had happened in the UK then I'm sure that (a) the "fact-checker" would've lost her job immediately, and (b) she would've perhaps faced an action for slander, depending on how far any complainant wanted to go with it

At our Air and Space museum, there is a photograph of a pilot wearing a fylfot as a good luck piece. Someone thought it was a nazi symbol and defaced it.

This fylfot symbol was used way way before the Nazi adopted it.
