View Full Version : SH3 Editor Sensors.dat need advice Please
Hi Guys need some help with this please .
This morning i decided to change a few entries in my "Sensors.dat"
I am using GWX3
So using SH3 Editor and printing out which changes to make following "Makmans" post i did the following :
1) made a back up of sensors.dat ... and a system restore
2) made the changes and then saved the file .
3) ran SH3 which started load but then went to a Black screen !
believing i had made an error somewhere i reinstated the original sensors.dat file and loaded Sh3 again , no dice ,,, still black screen
ran system restore ,,, SH3 loads as above but then goes to a Black screen again,
Please note i have sound ,,,,, but no visual !!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

fly999!:Kaleun_Salute: AFTER AN 11 YEAR SILENT RUN!
Nearly forgot .
SH3 is running again !!!
this is very odd... Computers are supposed to be logical yes ?
so why would it run on fourth attempt ?
anyway im happy again...
still have a question though .
can someone in the known please advise me if this is correct procedure ?
Start SH3 Editor
find Sensor.dat file
make changes to said file (Radar) and triple check all correct , using Makmans post radar mod
Save file
Exit
Run SH3
at the point of saving SH3 Editor did ask about JSGME however i simply saved the file ,,, is this where i made the error ?

JSGME prompts with that question because it understands you're about to overwrite a master file; in other words, you're about to make a permanent change to a file that's an original game file, leaving you no option (for the most part) to go back and recover the unchanged version. It's encouraging you to make a MOD file and enable the changes that way. Let me explain a bit more.
The smartest way of changing game files is to use JSGME. In your case, to create a new folder (say, name it "sensor change". In that folder create a new folder "data", and in that folder a new folder "library". Copy the original file "sensors.dat" there. Make the changes you want to that file, then cut/paste the folder "sensor change" to the MODS folder. Once there, run jsgme and enable the mod you've just created.
You just need to create the same folder/file structure as the file(s) you want to change. Please note that if you already have previous mods enabled, and they have changed the file(s) in question, your new mod will be based on the current file and not necessarily that of the original game. This can cause problems if, later on, you disable previous mods and then try running yours.
For example, you want to change "sensors.dat". If you have mods enabled that have already made changes to "sensors.dat", and you use the current "sensors.dat" file to make your mod, if you then disable the previous mod that made changes, when you run your mod it'll install the same changes to that file as the previous mod did.
This can be a good, or bad, thing, depending on your circumstances. It's a good thing when you want all previous mods to always be running, and you just want to tweak a couple of settings. It can be a bad thing when you've made a complicated mod based on your current settings, and later on want to install a must-have mod, or want to remove/replace current mods, that also makes changes to the same file(s).
Thanks schlechter
