Yesterday morning an old grain silo, in Vordingborg, was to be demolished.
A demolition unit was assigned to do this.
Where it went wrong, they still don't know. They had calculated that it should fall to the right, but it fell instead to the left, where the top of this silo hit the municipal library and cultural center. Thank goodness, nobody was injured, only material damage.

Looks like they tried to fell it like a tree, but as the charge(s) went off the remaining structure couldn't support the weight of the top part anymore and collapsed straight down.

Demolition is both a science and an art.

There seems to be an element of luck and comedy involved as well. :D

Additional information

The local police have hired an extern expert to find out what went wrong.

This will, until I find the article again, be hearsay

The demolition company who got the task should have "accident" in previous tasks they had.

wheres Fred Dibnah when you need him

He passed away some years ago.

He was a true steeplejack and a master of bringing chimneys down.
