We the human read each by watching the expression in our faces and eyes-You can NOT do the same with cats-Here it's how they move their tales and how their ear flip is positions and sometimes eyes(The pupil)

What this cat is doing is s/he is using its palate to smell- When they do this they pull their open their mouth withdraw upper lip and when they do this it could look like they are angry.

^ yes it is easy to misinterpret a cat's actions lol.
Waggling the tail seemingly inviting a dog to play really means "stay away or ... scratch"
And "flehmen" is a german word, though seldom used. A cat does it to extend its smelling senses, for something new or interesting, or disturbing things, to get a better reception and take it all in. So it is not a threat as you rightly wrote.

We have a book about cats where there is the face of a cat shown on several photos, said to be expressing all feline stages of being calm or aroused, or plain aggressive.

A little while ago Jim posted a comment to the effect that " coincidence is God's way of letting you know he's around". Something like that, and it stuck in my mind.

The Sea of Okhotsk looks like a rabbit, Italy looks like a boot, there's a few more but for the moment I've forgotten them.

One day, my wife and I were startled by a loud crash coming from the kitchen. I walked in to find that one of our cats had jumped up onto the counter and, in so doing, had knocked a clay teapot onto the floor.

But this wasn't just any old teapot. I had brought it back from our trip to Japan. I had carefully selected it from among dozens of similar hand-made kyusu (Japanese teapots) at a little shop in Kyoto - and it was one of my most prized possessions. It now lay on the floor, completely shattered to pieces. I was so angry that I scooped up the shards, threw them in the trash and smacked the cat off of the counter as I yelled at her.

But, of course, my anger was short-lived. I soon accepted that the cat was simply being a cat - and how could I be angry about that? She didn't mean to do it. And how could I stay angry at such a sweetheart?

Unbeknownst to me, my wife retrieved all of the pieces from the trash and carefully glued them back together. She did a fantastic job and you really have to look closely to see that it was ever broken in the first place. Of course, I can't use it anymore ... but at least I still have it to remind me of our trip and of our beloved Lucifer. (My wife did pick a fitting name for that adorable little troublemaker.)

That was a nice tea pot, with me I would know it's broken and not be satisfied till I got a replacement (or near), looks like you'll just have to go back to Japan one day!! (good excuse) :D
There are a number of other things our cat does that are annoying like jumping on to my classic Ford car in the shed, so far no damage, but yes they are just cats having fun and being curious!! :yep:
Hopefully one day she will eat the mice not just play with them till she gets bored and let them go!! :doh:

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. From what you said, this wasn't a cat but rather a member of the family. We have lost " members of the family " like this and it hurts every time. When the time is right, you may decide to give another cat or dog a good home like your cat had.

It won't be the same but every dog, cat, horse or whatever have their own unique personalities. So many animals need a loving forever home and I'm sure you could give that. :yep:

^^^ It's so funny that you posted that now. This past Friday night, I was out on the front porch when I heard an odd, faint squeaky noise. It was so unexpected and out of place that I said aloud, "What the hell was that?" Then, I heard it again. I thought maybe an opossum or small raccoon had gotten under my porch.

I just happened to glance over at my wife's car and saw a very tiny ginger kitten poking her head out from underneath the car and meowing. I went inside and retrieved a can of cat food (which I keep handy for just such an occasion ... as you do) and set it out for her. After making several passes to assess the danger, she cautiously approached the bowl and began devouring the food. Curiously, she didn't drink any of the water I had also placed nearby. I thought this was strange as it has been unbearably hot here lately.

Anyway, I managed to coax her onto the porch with the intent of keeping her out of danger until I could locate her owner. My wife opened the front door to get a look at her and the kitten leapt past her into the house. I posted on a neighborhood app asking if anyone had lost a kitten, but no one said they had. I went around the neighborhood the next day to see if anyone had perhaps posted a flyer for a lost kitten - but there were none.

So ... it looks like we have a new cat. But man, she can clear out a room with her gas! I don't know if it's from whatever she was eating before, what we're feeding her now (store-bought kitten food) or just the change in diet. Otherwise she seems quite healthy and clean. And she started using the litter box as soon as I put it out. Strange.

We'll be taking her to the vet soon to see if she's chipped and to get her shots and arrange to have her spayed. We estimate that she's between 1½ to 3 months old.

Cats often have gaseous problems when there is a food change, so i would wait a week and see smell whether there are changes to a less olfactorian overall impression.

Well done to you Sir, she looks adorable. This is one of those situations where the worst case is that she is chipped and gets to go home but I suspect that you might just have a new family member.

Kneading is sometimes referred to here as biscuit making and it would seem that she probably feels safe.
