China is building the world’s fastest wind tunnel to simulate hypersonic flight at speeds of up to 12 kilometres per second.:shifty:

So...26,800 mph? That's above mach 25 and the speed at which objects reenter the atmosphere from space. Assuming it didn't burn up from the friction, you wouldn't even need a warhead on such a device.

Let's just say I find it difficult to believe that a projectile could effectively sustain such speeds without catastrophic results.

The US military tested HTV-2, a Mach 20 unmanned aircraft in 2011 but the hypersonic flight lasted only a few minutes before the vehicle crashed into the Pacific Ocean.
