From Andy Johnson, HMS Onyx CO at the time. A very interesting piece of history. Andy, also, is a top block, very willing to help in my researchs about the war.

Regards!

Fantastic read, nice to be able to read about the circumstances on how Onyx did her bit for oceanographic navigation research. Thanks for posting! :yeah:

Onyx Report of Proceedings is still classified.

Of the subs taking part, only HMS Conqueror Report of Proceedings was released almost full.

The boys from Hereford don't tend to talk about their work much, aside from Mr McNab of course.

Yes, a great read. I've heard various stories on and off over the year about her bump down there, in my first job with the MOD in 1992 I worked with a guy called 'Ski' Hiscox who served onboard during that period but he was fairly quiet about the whole patrol.

I am so grateful for the chance to tour her whilst she was at Birkenhead. Tragic that she was broken up eventually for lack of museum funding in Cumbria.

Dam shame they scrapped Onyx the only O boat to have seen combat in a war really.

Thanks for sharing, I'll add that to my 'library' regarding the conflict.
