Damn. :Kaleun_Salute:
A great one for sure. His music ages so well and still seems relevant over the years. He will be missed.
Not dead. CBS screwed up and the rest of the drive by media ran with it.
Actually, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) screwed up: they were contacted by CBS, and other media outlets, and the LAPD spokesperson(s), acting on a report Petty had been taken off life support (also not yet officially confirmed by Petty's camp), told the media the LAPD has heard Petty was dead; the LAPD is currently trying to walk back their statement(s); CBS, and others, only reported what they believed to be a factual statement from an official source...
<O>
An article with the LAPD statement reversing the LAPD's previous reporting:
(1/2)The LAPD has no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty. Initial information was inadvertantly provided to some media sources
— LAPD HQ (@LAPDHQ) October 2, 2017 (https://twitter.com/LAPDHQ/status/914956939443920897?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
(2/2) However, the LAPD has no investigative role in this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience in this reporting.

Actually, if one wants more accurate reporting about celebrity news, TMZ is far, far more accurate than not and actively seeks multiple confirmation about celeb news before posting...

While I have never been a huge fan of his, I recognize his unique and creative talent. I hope he is still with us and able to make a full recovery (though after a major heart attack, no respiration for an extended time, etc.) it will be challenging if he can survive it. Regardless, he and those close to him will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Multiple sources are now reporting that he has passed.
Yeah just read this article where his manager has confirmed he has passed away.

Rest in peace.
It is strange, i never was a real fan of him, but everytime i heard his music on the radio or on festivals, i was somehow moved and liked it. I have recently (last weeks) looked for his music first on the tube and then on amazon, to find some of his music that had somehow accompanied me again and again.
He was a great musician.

Very sorry to hear of Tom Petty's passing. Tom along with other artists defined the music of the 80's and beyond. His voice and musical style was instantly identifiable. The music recorded then sounds as fresh and relevant as it did when first recorded. Tom never sought the limelight as the music was more important to him.
Tom Petty said the best times he had as a musician were with the Traveling Wilburys. The group had with such talent as Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynn and George Harrison in addition to himself. Tom was too young to pass but then so were other artists that have passed far too soon.
Rest in peace Tom and thanks for stopping by and leaving some great music.

Have to agree with you about the Traveling Wilburys, Tom and the rest of the guys were doing it because of their love of music, didn't do it to make money or worry about if the album made it to #1, they just loved doing it! You can see in the videos how much fun they had in being together too!

Tom Petty was one of the greatest. I'm kicking myself for not seeing him in concert when I've had the chance.
