Silent Hunter 5 Comparison.

Hello all. My first post really. I have Silent Hunter 4 wolves of the Pacific and I have some glitches with it (cant finish some career missions and war patrol problems). I was wondering was Silent Hunter 5 better? or just a lateral? Now I am using an Asus G73J (older but upgraded) with I 7, windows 7, ATI upgraded HD 5870 and EAX advanced HD 4.0. Will my computer even run it? it's several years old to boot. Im looking to upgrade this one and totally rebuild my tower with new Asus components. any thoughts about if the games a lot better than SH 4 WOP or if my comp can handle it? Keep in mind all I'm a newbie here so I'm at the mercy of your opinions.

I was wondering was Silent Hunter 5 better? I would not look at it as being better but being different.
SH4 with the American boats is a good alternative to SH3 and SH5.
SH5 unmodded is unplayable.
It comes to life when "The Wolves Of Steel" mega mod is used and then it becomes an excellent game.
SH4 needs to be modded and there is the excellent Webster's GFO mega mod (see my signature) and also the new FOTRSU mega mod.
Both highly recommended.
The problem with SH5 for you is you only have a 1gb gpu.
You would need to set the in game graphics to low and possibly also reduce some of the sliders to a lower setting.
This could be done by experimenting if needed after selecting the low graphic setting.
There is an application that can help the frame rates called "Antilag" that would help you.
SH5 should however still be considered as it has high quality graphics even when you have to tweak them a bit.
According to vdr1981 SH5 can be played with a 512mb gpu will all graphics set to their lowest settings.

I am running SH4 un-modded. I am not a very skilled when it comes to modding games lol as a matter of fact I've no clue how to even do it. My computer guy told me last time he worked on my laptop he upgraded my graphics card and maxed my memory as well. I don't know exactly what he did but I run Killing floor 2 on Ultra Graphics and if freakin rocks the house!
How does modding work? and how can I learn about it? I warned you, I'm a semi sub sim newbie and not great with computers, but as an electrician I love to learn.

Install it directly to your SH4 main game folder and follow the instructions.

I haven't been here for a long time. So, I don't have any clue what is going on in a subsim world :k_confused:

Last submarine game I was playing was SH3 with GWX mod (I'm not even sure if it was v2 or v3).

Can you tell me, pls, does "The Wolves Of Steel" work with the gold edition of Silent Hunter 5?
