I saw in an earlier post that someone used something called silent hunter speech. I read some posts that were 8 or 9 years old and it seems to be something that a lot of people liked. Every old link I found was obsolete. Does anyone know if this is something that is still available or is it not downloadable any longer?

Yes, it's on Plissken's site. Author: TOMCATTWO.
I have used SHSpeech and SH3Speech for years and IMO it's the only way to fly for real immersion. I have my installation set up to work entirely from voice command. I only use the mouse for changing PoV. No more mashing keys or mouseclicking. I give the orders, and my virtual crew says, "Jawohl, Herr Keleun!" and carries them out.
SH3Speech has some rough edges which have to be fixed before it is completely useful. It's not ready to go out of the box. SH5 has a speech module which is much better integrated. But SH5's speech module is much harder to tailor. I can't call my LI "Fritz."
A wonderful tool. Many thanks to Erik Knepfler and TomCatTwo. Good luck with it.

Thanks, I have successfully installed, yet I don't have the prerequisite which is microsoft speech recognition (MSR). I was in touch with microsoft online support. A very friendly lady from india took control over my computer but couldn't figure it out so far.
I think I lack speechUx.dll, or it's corrupted, but a Windows 10 Update / live installation didn't fix the problem. The menu where you should normally be able to configure MSR is completely greyed out.
Going back tomorrow :)

That used to be under "Windows Ease of Access", and was called "Windows Speech Recognition" under v8.1. I don't know if this will help you or not:

Exactly...
Yes, I, and the friendly lady, spent a lot of time on this menu. It's completely greyed out, but thanks anyway.
For speech recognition to work your language version of windows needs to match the major ones supported by the speech engine.
This may help: https://zulja.wordpress.com/2015/08/11/installing-additional-language-packs-for-windows-10-speech-recognition/

Thank you pisces, I have tried several different (matching) language/region pairs, yet the menu that allows you to configure SR is completely greyed out.
I have Windows 10 Pro and had to change my language from dutch to Enlish before Microsoft Speech wanted to 'ungrey'. If you have a Home version then I think you can't change the interface language.

I have pro. I also had an error message saying 'Ordinal 380 could not be located in ..../speechUx.dll'. I believe my installation is still corrupted.

Is your Win10 and "in-place" update on top of an old Win8.1? I'm almost afraid to suggest it (I had issues after doing this on my original Win10 install), but you could try the special options boot, and try the "Repair" option Half the time, mine used to find things wrong and "fix" them, and the other half of the time, it'd find things correct and break them, or put things back in that I had taken out... I no longer use Win10, and haven't since the commercial release, so I have no idea if you would "fix" or "break" something...

No it was Win 10 pro ever since I set this box up and, yes, I did an in-place repair/installation, yet the issue persists. I will be back in contact with the indian lady one of these days. Thanks for the hint though.

Last little suggestion, are you logged into the computer on an administrator's level account?
Has anyone tried VAC (Voice activated command) software for SH3 instead of MS speec recognition? I saw a few videos, seems interesting.

Would you happen to have a link for that setup?
Has anyone tried VAC (Voice activated command) software for SH3 instead of MS speec recognition? I saw a few videos, seems interesting.VAC is still reliant on the MS Speech engine. So I don't think you'll get much further with VAC only.
