I've recently returned to SH4. Got it on sale on Steam and started playing.
No problems using max time compression until about 1/2 into second patrol when I could barely get past 1024 compression and then seem to get random game crashes.
I did find the thread about using LAA and that seems to help a little.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are your computer specs, including your graphics card (cpu, ram, hd, etc.), and what OS are you using (Win10 64-bit, WinXP 32-bit)?? Where did you install the Steam and SH4? It defaults to Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ common \ Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific \ . Did you install any mods yet?...

Do you mean you have the game in:
C:\SteamApps\common\Silent Hunter...
- OR:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam Apps\common\Silent Hunter...
It makes a big difference to Windows where you put it.
Depending on the version of FotRS, you will encounter the occasional CTD. The later in the game, the more frequent. We are currently working on updating the mod, and calling it Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=226270), if you'd like to try it out. One thing that is an obscure trivia point about the game is that you shouldn't 'mix' game saves with a different mod, so if you go to play the new version, don't load any old saves...

It's in: C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Silent Hunters Wolves of the Pacific
I've started a new unmodded campaign to see how that works. So far no problems.
