View Full Version : Didn't come out of time compression.

I just took the "dive" and started my first patrol using an S boat out of Manilla. I was patrolling not too far outside the bay and using 256 time compression.

I had no contacts in my patrol zone but chased some reports of convoys not too far from my assigned position, again with no contacts.

Once back in my patrol zone I had a report of some ships moving my way. I was on the surface, at night, with time compression of 256. The first indication I had of any contact was the sound of my boat being hit with small arms fire. I took some damage and had some crew injuries but survived and made it back to port.

I read RockinRobins post about the config file and the section on time compression.

I was surprised that the game did not come out of 256 time compression with: 1) surface contacts, and 2) being shot at! Would have thought that this would trigger 1x time or normal time. Also no contacts were indicated on the map, even after going manually to 1x time compression.

Did I do something wrong? Is this normal?

Which mod(s) are you using?

We've been trouble-shooting issues around Manila Bay circa Dec 1941 right now in FotRSU, and haven't figured it out. Something is happening, and it "locks" the game in TC while whatever it is tries to, or succeeds in spawning. Another player had a CTD on his machine, mine just glitched, but I was all the way in the Bay, and did not see any enemy vessels... dunno just yet...

Thanks for the response.

I'm using version 1.5 with the RFB 2.0 mod and patch. I'm also using the large protractors and less plankton mods.

One other note and question: My patrol did not list a "stay within" range of the zone, or a time to stay on station. I've seen many videos that indicate stay within X miles for xx hours. Is this a glitch as well or normal?

That'd be as normal as normal can get in the game. I'd usually draw me a 50nm circle around the center of the star, and stay within that until it turned grey, which might be 48, 72, or 120 hours... Then go do what you want, or the other instructions given, then what you want... The game has issues when there is a lot of traffic, and it has more to keep track of. If you don't have LAA enabled on the SH4.exe, read in CapnScurvy's Windows10; Large Address Aware; SH4 Install (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2452635#post2452635) thread about its use. Even if you don't have Win10, still very informative, and most of it applies into Vista even.

Thanks again propbeanie. I did read that bit about LAA. Will give it a try. I didn't before because the game seems to run OK on my system.

Happy hunting!

Usually, the game will run fine on the newer computers, especially stock. But mods like FotRSU and others almost require the LAA to run smoother. Almost all, including stock, will use the LAA when encountering a lot of info to track, such as when close to ports, or with a lot of airplanes. You also get better response from TC, though I'm not saying that you'll drop out of 256x or 512x any faster and not get sunk... :salute:
