I live in the middle of nowhere... on a country highway where the normal speed is around 65mph.
I hear an ice cream truck coming down the road. Which is odd, since I wouldn't want my kids running out to the side of this road. And the fact an ice cream truck thinks he make money out here.
I'm also hearing sirens, which isn't odd as the jolly volly station is only a mile or so away, and the OSP use this road as a high speed shortcut to places.
But then he 'flies' by doing about 30. WAY too fast for kids to react and flag him down.
And there are 3 sheriff cars and an ambulance 'chasing' him, lights and sirens blaring.
Now I'm confused.

You're blessed if you ask me. I mean really, you will never see that ever again and pretty much most people on the planet won't ever see it. Please tell me a clown was driving the ice cream truck.
They are probably very upset because the ice cream was off!!:yep:

I think I would have joined the chase with my video camera at that point ...
That would have been epic. No, it was just some balding middle aged guy hanging out the window.

Sounds like some of my GTA5 police chases in stolen ice cream trucks..!

Now you know why crime rate is going up, the police are far too busy flagging down ice cream trucks wanting a 99 and flake. The ambulance clearly thinking its a emergency followed the police or they just wanted some ice lollies. :hmmm:

The LEO were after the strawberry sauce they didn't get on their ice cream cones and the ambulance crew were after some ice to preserve the organs they had in transit.
Happens every day of the week on the road outside of my place of abode :yep:

That's the thing.... there is no neighborhood. Occasionally I might see a tractor go by.

I just read this and I would like to suggest a possible scenario.
The ice cream truck and the three sheriff cars and an ambulance are not in any way related. Just a coincidence that they went by you at that time. Ice cream truck guy going home and cops and ambulance going to an accident somewhere. Just sayin'. :D

No, I'm pretty sure they were 'together'
1) I have never seen an ice cream truck out here. This is a very rural area, and it would not be profitable to work out here.
2) There was plenty of room to get around him. If they were unrelated, the SO would have flown by.
Why they hadn't sped around and cut him off, I'm not sure, but the only reason I can think was that chase was newly started, and they hadn't decided that was an option yet.
The squad was from the local VFD, so I'm guessing the chase started very nearby.
What I'm thinking is that this was a psych call that turned weird, well more than a 'normal' psych call. Around here, the SOP for a psychiatric patient is for the police to show up and determine the person is not a criminal threat, but yet needs to be evaluated. So they fill out a 'pink slip', which states the person is a threat to themselves or possibly others, and it places them under a 72 hour medical restraint. At that point EMS is called to transport the person to the appropriate medical facility.
I've been on more of these calls than I can count, and occasionally the patient gets weird when the ambulance finally arrives. I'm thinking when the VFD showed up, the patient freaked and some how stole an ice cream truck, turned on the music and took off down the road. Where I live is only about a mile from the 'middle of town' (read intersection with the VFD), so it may have started around there, and the SO hadn't felt the need to actually stop the van yet.
Still leaves the question as to what an ice cream truck was doing out here.

You said it :o
I did a quick search and couldn't find any news mention of a ice cream truck chase for the 5th but I did find out that at least two police departments (Boston and Cleveland) have their very own ice cream trucks staffed by uniformed officers.

I've actually worked with the guy on the far right in the CPD pic. Dunno his name, but we were on a call together.
I'm too far out from Cleveland for them to have used it out here though.
I doubt it made the news, unless it progressed much farther down the road, or something weird happened, assuming it was a pink slip call. I'd been on quite a few calls that might have made the news, but never did. It all depends on how it was written up, or if HIPPA laws apply.
