Not sure what I did here.

SH1.5
TMO 2.5
various graphics mods (skins, etc)

All of the sudden whenever I hit f12 to get free camera, or click the corresponding button on UI the game freezes and requires restart.

Previously this command was working fine and the <> buttons work great for external views as well. (Computer specs are great so its not a graphics thing I think)

The only thing I changed recently was uninstall RSRDC back to regular TMO. (to do this I uninstalled the entire SH4 and reinstalled to eliminated any hangers-on)

Its not critical, but still a little annoying.

Ideas?

Windows 10? Updates?

Did you load a Save from before?

Windows 8....and yes I am using an old save.

The save works 100% fine and all buttons/ external views work....except the f12 key for free camera so it has to be something else.

The old save contains RSRDC ships, which are no longer present with TMO alone. As soon as you detect one of these ships the game will crash. When you change your mod configuration you must at least be in port so you can generate a new cruise. The safest way to proceed is to eliminate the contents of your \documents\SH4 directory and start a new career.

I appreciate the advice, but this doesn't address the issues with my free camera not working.

Free Camera crashes even with solo missions not related to the campaign or my save file in any way.

Additionally as mentioned I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the whole shebang. Old saves would only affect careers...not solo missions.

(just for the sake of argument....since you mentioned it.....I did change configs while in port.)

Is there some sort of issue with CAMERA.dat or something similar?

.

Another symptom I noticed: In the Control room I no longer have free camera unless I hit the Shift f12 thing.....On the bridge however, I do have automatic free camera and am able to walk around. I wonder if this is a keybind issue then?

The old save can indeed contaminate the game, all aspects. We've seen it happen multiple times while testing FotRSU.

The recent spate of MS updates have trashed things from one end of a computer to the other, including online videos not displaying correctly in Internet Explorer. The did something with the video display drivers for nVidia things, and quite a few members here have been writing in with issues in all sorts of stuff, thinking it's this or it's that, and it's the Windows Update stuff - once again. Another of the side effects appears to be a further tightening down of the Windows "Protection" screws. I'm getting prompted on my updated Win7-64 machine everytime I go to run JSGME. I never had that before the updates. I've got an ATI card, so they didn't trash my video display, the if I try to use IE11, I can't see the videos on this site in the SubSim's Music Thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2357971#post2357971). Everything is cool and copacetic in Firefox, other than they're throwing updates just as fast as MS does...

All that "said", what folder is your SH4 install in? If you're in Program Files (x86), get it out of there. These last few Windows Updates have taken UAC up another notch on my computer, and I'm sure you're in the same boat with Win81. Do what THEBERBSTER recommends everybody lately, and right-click on the SH4.EXE file, left-click on the "Properties" choice toward the bottom of that menu, then on the "Compatibility" tab, and tick the box for "Run this program as an administrator". You might also have to use the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" tick box, and then choose like Window 7 from that drop-down box list.

If you've done all of that, I don't know what to tell ya, 'cause the external camera doesn't quit working "all of a sudden" for no reason... Something trashed it, and I suspect Microsoft changed something on your computer.

I appreciate the reply.

I uninstalled everything (again) and removed my evil save file that everyone is so worried about.

USER_FREE_CAMERA still causes freezes......changed the key combo and the new one causes same issues which pretty much narrows I down to the actual camera.

Unfortunately I know nothing about editing the actual camera file so am out of ideas.

Thanks anyways guys.

(and no..... I don't have sh4 in program(86) )
