Greetings everyone!
First off, just let me acknowledge how amazing and helpful this site has been to my subsim experiences, however, there has been one problem that i cant seem to find a solution anywhere:
There is no SH4 folder in my documents folder, no matter how hard I look, therefore i cannot change the cfg files, and I suspect that this is also the reason why everytime I click graphics settings the game crashes, also I cannot unpause any missions either.
If anyone can help it will be much appreciated! :Kaleun_Salute:

Welcome aboard! I'd recommend doing a reinstall. Seems somehow your folder got deleted or moved.

Welcome to SubSim Alastarohan! :subsim:

First of all, let us know what version of Windows you have? (ie: Windows 7, Windows 10...) What version of Silent Hunter 4 do you have? (ie: v1.4 or v1.5...) Was your Silent Hunter a download or a disk version? (ie: Steam, Amazon, etc.). Last but sometimes the most important, where did you install the game to? (ie: default is "C:\ Program Files (x86) \ Ubisoft", or elsewhere??)

Did the game ever work after you installed it? It "sounds" like you can get to the menu, but no further??...

I'm currently running Windows 10, the game version is 1.5, the game was downloaded from the ubisoft store, and is currently at my D drive "D:\SilentHunter4"

The game never did work, I couldn't start a career without it crashing, pressing graphics options crashes the game, Playing a random mission results in a black screen with the game paused, and I cannot change the configs due to the missing folder in documents.
I tried using compatibility modes, disabling upscaling, and running as admin, none have been effective so far

If you are missing the SH4 saved games folder in your documents the reason will be because you did not enter the Naval Academy which builds it.

Well, SH4 creates its save folder when there is something to "save", which you haven't been able to do just yet... You may have to do another re-install, but maybe not. You could use "Folder Options" in Windows and on the View tab selected the "radio button" tick to "Show hidden files, folders, and drives", at least temporarily, to make certain that the system didn't make it a "hidden" folder, but...

From the sounds of things, you may have skipped the DirectX v9.0c install, which ~is~ a requirement of the game. It is safe to install it in Windows 10, and it will not overwrite anything in DirectX 12, just add to what's there, which are the parts that Silent Hunter 4 needs to run properly...

If that doesn't work, I would then read CapnScurvy's Windows10; Large Address Aware; SH4 Install (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2452635#post2452635), in which he talks about LAA and its use on the modern computer with older games, but also on installing SH4 in Windows 10, which would be very helpful either way.

Try running the game as administrator. Maybe that will jiggle something loose.

Hey guys! Thanks for the great replies, but it seems like nothing is working

Some additional things I noticed is that I cannot see the ships in the museum either, and every time I click on the graphics settings the game freezes and quits, if someone can trouble shoot with these additional details it'd be great!

Really hoping to play this game!

Well... that doesn't leave much else then... What computer do you have, model number if possible, and do you happen to know what video card (if any) that you have? Some of the Intel onboard video chipsets were known to cause trouble for some games a few years ago...

Welp I fixed it by using windows 95 compatibility mode, magic

Glad you're going, but that is a bit strange, since the game isn't written for Win95... oh well... do what works.
