ISTANBUL — A Russian naval intelligence ship sank Thursday after colliding with a merchant freighter in foggy conditions on the Black Sea near Istanbul, the Turkish coast guard said. All 78 crew members on the Russian vessel were rescued. The crew of the freighter Youzarsif H, a Togo-flagged ship traveling from Romania to Jordan with a cargo of 8,800 sheep, was unharmed, and the ship suffered slight damage to its bow, according to local media reports.
In Moscow, Russia’s Defense Ministry issued a statement confirming that the vessel, the Liman, went down after the collision tore a hole in the hull below the waterline.

Apparently fog can be more stealthy than some give credit to.

Two or three years ago, Merkel said on a press conference (illustrating how far behind many politicans are when it comes to the pragmatic ordinary everyday life of the German citizen dealing with the normal reality around):
"The internet still is something rather new to all of us."

Politicians are jokers at birth, they don't count. :O:

It was a very old recon ship, Russian MoD doesnt even see the need to recover it as all sensitive equipment was either removed or destroyed during dammage control attempts.

I am glad that no lives were lost.
I doubt there will be much left to attempt an intel salvage operation though.

Depends on depth I guess, I read somewhere they carried several SAMs. Assuming they still carried them and didnt get them off in time you just know someones gonna dive on it.

I think the title speaks volumes for the site/author.

I guess it is a decent attempt to make a comedy out of this event
Sounds like they drive their ships the same way they drive their cars on the highways in Russia.
Yeah, it's good no one was hurt or lost. At least they won't be nosey with it on our East Coast. ;)

Uh huh, Like the Russian MoD would ever say "Oh yeah lots of top secret spy gear went down with her and we're really worried about somebody recovering it!" :)

The ship is from 70s and they had 3 hours to destroy/remove anything of interest as per SOP.

Pretty sure they have a destruct sanitation plan.

That's fine. I'm just saying that they'd never say otherwise.
