Where is all the merchant shipping?

Title speaks for itself. I've been at this for days now and have patrolled area after area. All I ever see is either individual destroyers or formations of destroyers and associated patrol boats.

I'm patrolling the South East to the East Coast of the UK, I am about 60-100km off shore most of the time and always within 120km of my assigned point.

What am I missing?

Maybe trying open waters?? Unless convoys are amphibious I doubt you will find convoys very close to the shore unless you are 100km away from a main port. Which still I wouldn't do because convoy helmsmen are not that smart and seeing 20 ships doing stupid maneuvers while approaching port/land will be somehow boring. :arrgh!:

I assume you're in 39/40, Thewebster (sp?) gave me a good tip; Go a square north of Loch Ewe (you'll know you're too close when you see more than one destroyer), submerge at intervals and listen. There are some nice fat troop transports using that route.

Personal addendum: I have had more luck when staying submerged for longer period of times in a single spot than just diving, listening in and moving on.

If it makes anyone feel better, I had a peek at my posting history and noticed I managed to create two such threads here in the past. I blame age and things. :)
