Asiatic campaign.
TMO 2.5 (I think)

Came across an 18+ ship convoy 12 nm north of Bali. 7 cargo ships and the rest are warships. They've been sitting there with some occasional milling about for over 2 hours.

If they saw me before I submerged, why wouldn't an escort or two head to where I was sighted and poke around?

Very strange.

Of course, I'm out of range and with relatively calm seas, I'm not closing very fast at just under 100 rpm. Firing into that hornets nest would be a bad idea anyway with approx. 10 warships in the group.

Has anybody else ever run into a static convoy like this?

Date? Month and year? If early 1942, possible supposed to be the invasion force . I know in TMO with RSRD some convoys pause at time they are "landing " troops.

Could have arrived, siting at anchor to "unload" cargo and then will head off for return trip, seen that before as well.

Thnx Bblhd

Date: 13may42

Convoy is a good 5-6 nm off shore. Maybe this is close enough for landing operations according to the programming?

Maybe they are forming up before/after landing operations.

You'll see some mod authors thanking tater for the concept of "Stop and Go" traffic. What is done in an attempt to "slow" a convoy, and simulate off-loading, or loading of the ships (or maybe them having to wait for a berth to dock, or a pilot to bring them into a harbor - or as Bubblehead1980 says, a beach landing), is to have them do like 0.0001 knots or slower, since they aren't allowed to "stop" in Silent Hunter 4 for some reason. It looks like they're standing still, but they're actually moving, ~very~ slowly. In some places, it works like a charm. Other places - Truk coming to the forefront of my mind because of what we just found there in Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate - it doesn't work so well. In theory, you should be able to sneak up on them at one or two knots, Silent Running, from their rear, and shoot a couple. Of course, most times when you find a group doing this, they'll be in shallow water, making it difficult in some places to even get to periscope depth, so a night surface attack with a good exit route might be called for, or better still, just leave them be... or you'll have all the "B's" that you'd care to have, buzzing around you, in the guise of the DD...

I have seen about 9 ships just stopped at Truk lagoon, away from the port.....never seen it in open seas.

running TMO.

Yeah, that's where they'd do it, is in the shallows by ports. TMO is where AOTD_MadMax got the idea from for FotRS, and lurker_hlb3 had it in RSRDC. There's probably others that use it. We've dialed it back a bit in FotRSU because of the issues with too much traffic around Truk.
