Just come back to SHIII

Hi all, I was a Subsim member in the past, but I haven't been on for ages and my account was linked to an old e-mail that I can't use any more so I lost my details.
Been playing lots of stuff since I last drove a sub, but I thought I'd come back and see what's happening.
Tried SH V first, but even when modded I just couldn't get on with it.
So, remembering that SH3 was one I played a lot, I've decided to go with that.
Got the base game installed so far, following instructions found on here, and it's working (eventually!) on Win 10 at the level of the last official mod (1.4b).
Now I'm a bit confused as to where to go next, there seem to be LOTS of mods around fixing or tweaking various things. I've been looking a threads that recommend the most useful mods so I'm working with those at the moment. I would appreciate any guidance as to the best set-up for the game, I don't play hard core but I do like a bit of a challenge.

Welcome back to the best SH game! When it comes mods, you need to decide on a pathway. You can't use all mods, but you can use the ones you tend to really use the most.

I'm not into the eye candy. I play 100% realism always even with out the event camera.

I use NYGM because it deals more with the AI enemy reactions to my presence and the physics of my uboat.

Other mods are what I call 'eye candy' and look great on screen.

Or if you are simple you can just pick out a few single mods to start with and see how you like them. There are so many choices!
