Mediterranead bad for U-boats?

I have always had this questions.

Why in the game engine, crew keeps saying that Med is bad for U-boats? It is way much more deeper than North Atlantic (at least in the game), not even to mention the English Channel or Coastal waters? :hmmm:

60-ish U-Boats went into the Mediterranean, only 1 came out. That doesn't sound like a good time.
