Been gone from SH for some years and have forgotten a lot. Can someone tell me the difference between TMO 1.4 and 1.5. Sounds like 1.5 deals with U-Boats, if so i will stick with 1.4

Which version of Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific do you have? Version 1.5 of that is the Uboats, whether you bought an "upgrade" Uboats Missions add-on, or the Gold Edition with it all together in one. If you do not have Uboats in your SH4, then you have v1.4 or earlier of that. You can see the version in the lower right-hand portion of the screen on the main menu (usually), or you can right-click on the SH4.exe file in Windows Explorer, left-click on Properties there, then on the "Details" tab, and about the middle of that window is "Product Version", or "File Version"... which ever version of Silent Hunter you have, determines what mods you can use. Most of the mods are for v1.5, though there are still some mods findable for v1.4, such a Fall of the Rising Sun v1.2 or v1.3 - NOT the Ultimate Edition though...

Oh, and hey! Welcome to SubSim!

Version 1.5 changed the game's handling of traffic completely. 1.4 tracked every single ship on the seven seas, tying up mucho memory, causing corruption problems galore and markedly slowing the game.

1.5 began a "virtualization" of ship positions. Instead of tracking every ship, SH4 knows how many ships are in each sector. Only when you enter contact range are these ships actually rendered and tracked. It's like Schroedinger's Cat times several hundred. Each ship not precisely tracked increases available memory and clock cycles to make the game run smoother and faster with fewer errors.

That alone makes v1.5 worth buying, even if you never look at a U-boat. Also just about every mod out there is made for 1.5, not 1.4. Basically 1.4 is obsolete. It's not worth keeping.

Thanks for the input. Where can I get V1.5?

If you've got a Steam version of the game now, you need to buy a Steam version of the Uboats add-on. If you've got a DVD of the game, you can buy either another DVD or a download from places like Amazon. If you're in the US, you can click on this link for Uboats (https://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hunter-Wolves-Pacific-Download/dp/B004I43FAG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489707543&sr=8-1&keywords=silent+hunter+4+uboats) and SubSim will get a cut, or just "Search" for Silent Hunter 4 Uboats after clicking on one of the links at the SubSim Store (http://www.subsim.com/store.html). The going rate right now is $10US

Now, some folks think me strange, but I have a v1.2 (or is it v1.12???) disk, that I've patched with Ubisoft patches up to v1.4. I still have that on my one computer, and I also purchased a Uboats add-on (like linked to above) to bring it up to v1.5, but I used MultiSH and have a 1.4 and 1.5 install. Then, a couple of years ago, the DVD "Gold" version went on sale, which is the Uboats as part of the disk, and I got it and put it on another computer. So I've got 2 copies of the game. I've got two boys who love to game (well, maybe not the old man's stuff so much), and when I can convince them again that "I swear, I won't sink you, and I won't sink the ships right in front of you..." Now, that is networking fun...
