Hi All, I am an avid subsim fan from way back and I want to get back but I am reeeeally leery about which, where, how, etc.
I have played SH2/3, DW and probably a couple others, but 15-30 years ago. Different computers and black screens, etc. have kept me away.
My computer: (2.5 years old - Gaming capable...then)
ACPI x64 PC
I7-4810MQ 2.8 gigahertz (8 processors)
16G Ram
Twin 4G NVidia GTX-870 boards
SoundBlaster/Nvidia
WIN10
- Everything updates pretty automatically
Okay, before I go buying software or tinkering, I would be grateful for direction. Looking about, I think DW is non-WWII and a probability. I am happy using a mouse or 10-15 hotkeys.
Thanks,
Del
- I have this tied to my e-mail, so I will show up within an hour this weekend if someone has time.

Welcome to Subsim Delgard. :sunny: You have pretty good equipment and should have no problems playing anything although I don't have any experience with Win 10 and gaming. I'm not sure what you are looking for but the Silent Hunter series has a number of Mega mod add on's for the various SH simulations.
Let us know the direction you want to take and we'll help if we can.

I like the modern, more analytical situations.
Thanks

I'd suggest Dangerous Waters: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=181

I thought I was going to get e-mails but I got just one since I last posted...
Thanks all. I will head for the link Jimbuna. I think I have read everything in the DW general forum. I will snoop more.
I restarted my Steam account. Took awhile to re-find my login/PW. Should I determine initial downloads and do that here or at Steam? Does it matter?

The general consensus is that the physical game DVD is better than the downloads from Steam. There seems to be less problems that way. I don't play dangerous waters so I know very little of it. The advice JimBuna gave is probably the best course of action.
If you need assistance or something specific, ask us here or in a private message. :salute:
Good luck with everything.

I downloaded from Steam. Downloaded the mods from here. DW seems good. I wish I could name my own subs.
I also got 688i running good, for which I learned on. All except the 5" x 5" screen.
In one of the scenario downloads, the Bismark and Cesrus missions look for a graphic. I dumped all files into the Scenario folder so they should be findable. If anyone has the graphic I would be grateful.
Thanks for all the posts/files
Oh, I think I got my headset working, too. As it is now, I just use it for sound, but eventually, it will be a voice comms asset.
