View Full Version : My USB controller must hate me right now

Finally got an external 1tb drive for my lap top. Got that plugged in the same USB Hub as my 3d printer, mouse, speed pad, game pad, Arduino, DSLR, Iphone and I think a couple more things buried under the crap on my desk. It's a nice HUB, powered with 12 ports, it was pretty cheap too.

Well since I do a lot of 3d design work, some for commercial production, I've been getting more and more paranoid about losing all my data, which I have lost data in the past (I thought RAID 5's weren't supposed to do that!), so I finally got a drive.

So right now I'm running a system backup, a file history backup, and downloading 40 movies and 100+ images from my DSLR.

I'm pretty sure my USB controller is about to revolt.

/zero content thread.

... just so long as it doesn't power-down in the middle of something because of user "in-activity"...

I was paranoid of that. That's usually the result in 90% of stuff like this I try.

But ahoy! Everything went smoothly! The only error message I got was that a directory was not backed up because it's on the backup drive already (Raw video files for later editing).

Many programs have the option not to allow your computer to go to sleep while the program is in operation, especially high end graphics applications and video processing applications.

However such options are not available with Windows Explorer, elderly cripple that it is, and with Windows you don't have any options for different file managers. In that case, go into power settings in the control panel and set your computer never to go to sleep or power down unless you tell it to when it's on AC power.

Friends don't let friends use default settings for their operating systems!:D:D:D
