I'm using the merchant fleet mod v3.2. I will use the folder names. Can someone with some experience using this mod tell me
1) if the numbers in the rec manual are totally off?
2) can a given ship type come with a randomly generated length/mast/beam etc so that say two ships of the same type can have different dimensions?

I encountered an M37X (Thiokepasti it's called here). It is listed in the rec manual as being 91 meters long. It was travelling at medium speed.

With map contact updates enabled, I plotted the position at a 3.25 minutes interval and got the speed to 8.1 kts.

With a course towards it slightly ahead and the UZO at 0 deg. bearing, I measured the speed of the ship when it crossed the UZO crosshair. Time was 27.5s. With a length of 91m that gave me a speed of 6.4 kts.

To get 8.1 kts, I would need to use the length of about 115m.

Looking at the folder's en.log where the museum data are, this ship had this entry:
Displacement: 3,400-6,500 GRT|Length: 100-130 m|Beam: 16-20 m|Draft: 6-7.7 m|Mast: 22.5 m|Speed: 10-14 knots

This does not agree with the rec manual at all.

Has anyone compiled a list of all correct ship data for the MFM ships?

EDIT: Looking at ge.log and fr.log and my confusion and bewilderment is significant
Verdrängung: 7,170 GRT|Länge: 147 m|Breite: 18.1 m|Tiefgang: 5.8 m|Mast: 22.5 m|Geschwindigkeit: 13 Knoten
Déplacement : 7 170 GRT|Longueur : 147 m|Largeur : 18,1 m|Tirant d'eau : 5,8 m|Tirant d'air : 22,5 m|Vitesse : 13 nœuds
These 2 agree but the en.log is totally different.

I have it and if I remember correctly, the museum does not sync up which to the in game ships.

Most of the ships in this mod are simply pasted over some
Of the ships already in the game. There are some differences. I would normally round up and as a result I would normally get a good result.

Thanks, bstanko6. So, basically the one and only function of the museum is to fill up storage space on the HDD then. Nice touch.

When you say "pasted over some of the ships already in the game", what precicely do you mean by that? I'm not sure I understand you.

As for rounding, in the case of the M37X, without knowing what the exact value is, then any rounding, or not rounding at all, is completely arbitrary and there is no way to tell if rounding will give more precice or less precice results. In this case, the counter intuitive is the right one in that rounding up 9 meters will get you closer than rounding down 1 meter. If the actual size was say, 89 meters then rounding down would give a better result.

Looks like there really is no other way than to encounter all the different types in MFM and do the best to measure them in game. I was really hoping there was another way as I can't get custom made missions to run here (following tutorials to the letter and the mission still crashes the game).

When I said pasted over, I meant, that a new MFM ship is using a tramp steamer specs.

The new ships and their designs are simply shells drawn over existing ships in the game.

So you might get a coal steamer "shell", pasted over a fishing boat, which the coal steamer has a larger beam than the fishing boat, but the game will not know the difference, it will still see the target as a fishing boat with fishing boat specs.

The man who made the fleet wrote that to actually make the specs and ships line up, would take too long.
