Greetings Mates!

Yup, got a Samsung 43" curved UHD display and everything runs great and works as it should - except SH4. When clicking within the start menu the little Windows wheel starts turning then stops after about 3 seconds. No error messages at all. It simply fails to launch. The steps I've taken are as follows;

1. With the 43" monitor still attached, deleted SH4 entirely, including cleaning out the registry and reinstalled the game to my G (gaming) drive, no launch.
2. Tried running the .exe as administrator within the SH4 file folder, no launch.
3. Set my 27" monitor beside the 43", plugged the HDMI cable from the 43" back to the 27", SH4 launches fine. Go back and plug the HDMI back into the 43" and try launching it again, no launch.

Obviously there is something about running SH4 on the bigger monitor it doesn't like, but for the life of me can't figure out why it won't even launch with that monitor hooked up, let alone run. I'm running SH4 at the 2560x1440 resolution when it runs on the 27" monitor. I would think it would at least launch on the bigger monitor.

My system specs my help someone narrow it down;

Windows 10 (SH4 for me runs fine unlike some other posts I've seen) 64bit
I7 5390k 6 core 3.5Ghz
GTX 780ti
16 GB DDR5
SSD drive
ASUS 27" UHD 3D monitor
Samsung 43" KU7500 UHD monitor

Thank you everyone. I'd really like to get SH4 going again!

Hi mrmertz
Does your Samsung have another input option other than HDMI?
Does it have a DVI multi-pin input which you screw the connecting cable into?
This will show as a PC input on the screen.

What's the refresh rate of the 43"?

The game will try to use the resolution & refresh rate that it was set to when you had your smaller monitor hooked up. Maybe your bigger monitor doesn't support that resolution & refresh rate combo. Maybe try changing those to something both monitors support before unplugging the smaller monitor? (Note: You'll have to reload the game after changing the resolution for it to take effect).

You can also set the resolution and refresh rate manually in your "Documents\Sh4\ data\cfg\main.cfg" file.

eg.

[VIDEO]
Resolution=1920,1080,60,22

First two numbers are the resolution, third is the refresh rate, not sure what the fourth number is.

Doing a little research I see that the resolution of your Samsung 43' monitor is 3840x2160. What is the aspect ratio, 16.9 or 21.9? The max resolution for your GTX 780ti is 4096x2160.

While you have the two monitors side by side go into the Graphics options in SH4 and see if you can set the resolution to your 43' monitor although I doubt that will work. The only other thing I can think off is try running one graphics card instead of two. SH4 is a ten year old game and probably will run better on a single card instead of two. Being an older game SH4 was not designed to run under a SLI setup.

Of course, the simple thing is that your present graphics cards just aren't able to handle the larger resolution because your just under the max of your graphics card.

Sorry I couldn't offer up a solution for your dilemma. :06:

Thank you everyone. As soon as this blasted cold stops kicking my aft I'm going to go through and try all the reccomendations here!

I'm only running one single graphics card as I know one high end card runs better than several mid range cards. I'm looking forward to the 1080ti if they ever decide to release it. Don't know. This 780ti still cooks along for graphics though for the most part. I can run DCS World maxed out but starts to slow around the heavily congested Las Vegas area. I was running SH4 maxed out at 2560x1440 on the 27" monitor, no problems. I think by entering the larger display arena now I'm beginning to push the limits of my card, which, of course, with the 1080 they reccomend the i76900 chip also - which mean a sizable investment to say the least.

Since everyone has been so helpful I'll post my results ASAP on what I find.

Whoops, forgot. Aspect ratio is 16.9 and the resolution I'm running everything at on the 43" is 3860x2160. With the 27" it was 2560x1440.

The fourth number is your monitor size.

Well, all solved. Come to find out I was also having another unrelated issue (with the screen not wanting to hold a graphic setting and defaulting to a energy saver mode, ugh). Samsung suggested trying another HDMI input other than "1". I opted for the "2" input and while at it decided to see if SH4 would even launch. It did. Then W10 automatically ran a compatibility something-or-another and SH4 is back but now in 3840x2160 glory. Problem is now it looks really dated on the bigger screen graphics-wise, but anxious to mod and try it nonetheless!

So HDMI input number 2. Go figure. Obviously for whatever reason the HDMI input on this screen does not like my PC - or vice versa.

Thanks again lads and lassies! :Kaleun_Salute:

Happy to hear that you got things working, mrmertz. :D :up:
