I'm running Wolves of Steel 1.06 04h.

My first question is I am trying to run the RAOBF tutorial. It wants me to click on the WO to identify the ship, but this functionality has been removed with Wolves of Steel. How do you advance the tutorial past this point?

The second question is my RAOBF reticules look raggedy, as if the resolution is incorrect on them:

Also the scale does not change from 1.5X to 6X magnification.

Is this correct?

Some tutorials say to measure half the ship's length, others say to use measure the whole length of the ship. Which one is correct?

Thanks,
Steve

Anyone?

I thought maybe I needed one of the resolution patches to make the RAOBF look right, but I think I'm already 16:9. I'm running 1920x1080 resolution.

So I should not need any of the resolution patches to make the RAOBF reticle look right, correct?

I'm not sure what the problem is but I just recently installed TWoS and I do have the recognition manual.

I found the recognition manual.

My problem is the RAOBF reticle does not look right. It is raggedy as if it is the wrong resolution and it does not scale between 1.5X and 6X.

I learned speed and range calculation using RAOBF from this manual for SH4...http://www.mediafire.com/file/66gak4ai8n1s5iw/RAOBF_User_Guide.rar
For AoB I still use MK1 eyeballs ...:)

And by the way, everything is OK with your RAOBF tool and resolution patches...

That's the way mine looks also. All your setting are correct.
Trevally's in-game tutorials are good for learning how to calculate Range, Speed, and AoB just using the RAOBF. (No Calculator required)

Also take a look at Stoiamn's Tutorial Videos (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181538) for another good RAOBF tutorial, plus many more. Lots of good info there.

I just found this PDF (http://helmut.saueregger.at/gameresources/SH3/MaGuiInterfaceRAoBF.pdf), explaining the RAOBF. But I haven't read it yet, so don't know how good it is.

Personally, I use a combination of the Stadiometer for range, and the RAOBF for AoB and Speed.

OK good to know.

I want to run with map updates on again to confirm my RAOBF results.

It looks like the Real Nav disables this even if you allow it under realism settings while in port, is that right?

Of course...What would be a point of real navigation with map contacts all around you...:yep:

EDIT:
You can also disable manual targeting and TDC will adjust correct torpedo solutions automatically, handy for quick and correct checking...

OK! I got it to work! I don't know what I did wrong before. Maybe it was right before but I could not measure it since I had the Real Nav mod enabled.

I disabled it and changed the realism settings to allow for map contacts, and then fired up the RAOBF historical mission, and it seems to work.

I get more accurate range readings with the stadiometer though. But I think this will work. I was able to get good range and AOB readings, and I can use the stopwatch to get speed using length * 1.94 / time.

I think I'm ready to tackle the British with Real Nave and No Map Contacts!

I replaced the later RAOBF included with TWoS back to the original version because I found it too bright when trying to gather data in low light conditions. Also the later version has all the markers in red as opposed to two black and one red as per the tutorial. The original is more "yellow" and not as bright as the later version and was less distracting because I always found myself trying to conduct an attack at dawn or dusk or during the night. I tried a few times to change the textures to like dark with light markings but they didn't look very good using the limited tools at my disposal. HINT! texture guru's!! Once you get familiar with the operation of the ROABF and spinning the centre ring, it only takes seconds to gather the information to input into the TDC with the exception of timing to get the speed of the target.

Yeah it would be nice to see the gradients re-done so they did not look like minecraft. :)
