All,

Looking for some input concerning LCD/LED monitors. My understanding is the LED screens use LED for the back lighting. These lights run the edges of the screen. LCD using fluorescent run the back of the screen. I understand both screens are LCD but the light sources are different and in different positions.

In your opinion, what screen is the better of the two? Does it not make much of a difference between the light sources? Is it best to look for a high DPI like 1080?

I do not have one myself, but my understanding, and the way they look in the store, is that the LED / LCD combo models have better off-center viewing - and cost more...

I purchased a LED flat screen and the picture produced is vibrant and bright. The cost for the LED TV is in range with other LCD TV. It is a 65 inch Vizio. I have found the LED monitors are selling at what I consider reasonable cost. The question is, replacing my 5 year old LCD(view sonic) with a new LED worth the cost?

I'd say that the main advantage of LED over LCD is the longevity of the backlighting with LCD failing quicker than LED. But if the LCD works there would be minimal benefit to upgrading.
