Hi everyone!

Great forum u got here!

So i just found, and saw the nearly 5-hour version of Das Boot and i am now eager to get sailing again! I've played SH4 quite a bit a few years back.

I remember it had some bugs and it would be great to get rid of them:Kaleun_Thumbs_Up: Also the upgrades i read about sounds awesome!

I have a tiny-little experience with mods from IL-2 Sturmovik (i got some help for that...) but im pretty much terrible at this :Kaleun_Cheers:. All these mods, versions and so on - i cant even seem to find out what version i currently have? :k_confused: I just know i just bought SH4 on steam a couple of hours ago.. --> EDIT: I found out what version i have! DOUBLE-EDIT: Aaand bought the expansion and now i have v1.5 :D

So if anyone would please help it would be most welcoming! :Kaleun_Salute:

/Dive - over and out!

P.s. Highest priority is to make the game run better without bugs. Some add-ons, cool stuff etc. would offcourse also be very nice :D

P.p.s. I like to die a lot:wah:, so i play in 100% realism - this is one of the things i absolutely love about this game; the realism! So any modds that furthers this are also a priority..

Welcome to Subsim!

First, you mentioned having watched Das Boot as your motivation. Are you wanting to sail those nasty u-boats, trying to crush the valiant Allies through hunger and starvation? Or were you wanting to enlist with the glorious Silent Service to bring justice and vengeance to the Evil Empire of Japan by cutting off the supplies they're stealing from oppressed nations across the Pacific?

Whichever way you go, there's mods to add to the game, but it would help to know which side you're looking at.

P.s. Highest priority is to make the game run better without bugs. Some add-ons, cool stuff etc. would offcourse also be very nice
There's a mod, Game Fixes Only. I believe the goal was to leave stock gameplay alone, and only fix the bugs in the game. I've never used it, so I can't say much about it.

P.p.s. I like to die a lot, so i play in 100% realism - this is one of the things i absolutely love about this game; the realism! So any modds that furthers this are also a priority..
If you want to die, try Trigger Maru Overhauled. That one ups the difficulty, but it only works for the US side of the game.

And look for the upcoming post from THEBERBSTER (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=303079), he's got a number of guides that might help you get started.

Welcome aboard supcapn!
:Kaleun_Salute:
We are always glad to have someone new to push around, err, I mean help share our vast wealth of knowledge and guide to success.

For the US side: TMO ups the difficulty level to "ouch." RFB renders the boat and ships to as realistic as the game allows. RSRDC changes the traffic to historical realism. Traveler's mod makes many different changes to add another dimension to the game play. OTC makes corrections to errors in the game play optics.
For the German side, Operation Monsoon is an Atlantic campaign for SH4.
All the supermods are excellent in their own right, it's just a matter of personal preference.
There are many smaller mods available for individual customization of the game.
Make sure you read the documentation before installing the mods. They need to be installed in a particular order, or it will mess with the game.
Don't forget JSGME. It's an excellent tool to help manage the mods.

Now go polish the torpedo tube doors. The outside doors, they look kind of rough.

Don't forget to use the 4 gb patch to SH4.exe using the Large Address Aware utility.

Hi everyone - thanks for helping!

To razark:
I am leaning a bit towards the germans - just because of Das Boot :D But given the choice between not-so-well-greated-Germans and very-well-created-Allies i would choose the Allies! It is the game experience mostly, if that makes sence :)

Regarding the GFO mod i am trying to get that installed - i understand i can put other (compatible..!) mods on after this one. Also i understand there are som kind of corrections to this mod, but right now i have another problem to solve first...

I've made contact at bearing THEBERBSTER (hehe) and he is currently helping me.

I have come as far as copiyng the steam-designated folder to another destination. I ran the game once before doing that. Bu it dosent work. I get a dialouge box which says in the topbar: "Steam error". There is a red-cirkel-with-cross-sign and in the box it says: "Application load error 2:0000065558".

Then i press OK and nothing happens :/

Actually, it also seems weird to me that just copying the folder would work? But then again, all these steps and so on seem weird to me, i just try to follow them as precisely as i can and hope i can get sailing with an upgraded subsim :D

Thank you for pushi... Helping ;)
Operation monsoon sound really nice! I can sail German subs in the Altantic then? Fully visuals and so on as the stock-game version and so on? How are the German accent, is it good?
P.s. I can't polish them doors now, im laying on the bottom and ran out of compressed air :/

To jldjs:
Theherbster mentioned this to me as one of the steps - but what does it actually do?

Further i run win7 home premium 64-bit on a laptop. I have run the game on this machine with ok graphic settings, so it should be able to again (did a reinstall and new thermal paste plus cleaning, runs pretty smooth again :D )

Dive!! - Over and out!

I understand your dilemma, it seems to happen a lot. The members I had polishing the props seemed to disappear kind of quick. Maybe that was the problem. :hmmm:

It's been a while since I used Operation Monsoon. I believe it uses the stock speech.

Hi everyone!

I made it! Thanks to u :Kaleun_Salute:

I changed the steam default folder and then i installed the game. Then i installed jgsme in the game folder and then adding the GFO mod. And when i started the game it was different - it said GFO in the beginning. (It still says v1.5 in the main menu - i read it should say 1.6, but then again i also read something about rights and so on, so i gues webster changed it to v1.5 again).

Now i can go on and experiment with other mods! Thanks a lot!

after removing and reinstalling SH4, I had cleaned up JSGME by mistake. Got SH4 working again but forgot order of installing mods, these are what I put in, maps not working though.

RSRDC TMO V502
RSRDC V5** patch 1
New depth charges
Webster new sounds for SH4
Websters Underwater vis - (but its 'greyed' out)
Webs - smaller rain for TMO
Webs - eliminate floating plankton vor v1.4
TMO visuals for RSRDC
FJB colour Nav maps (not working)

this is what I put in I think from memory but my memory is rubbish anyway.
The answer may help thread starter too

CTD's = game-crash?

I just tried the game and it crashed at some point :/

I thought it was only for windows 32-bit?
