Hi,

I thought I would be clever after keeping hold of my Silent Hunter 3 and instead of trying to run it on my new system and windows 10, I would build a system for ONLY for the game.

So I have;

AMS Athlon dual core processor 5000B 2.59GHZ, 3.48gb of ram
Msi Radeon X1550 graphics card
running windows XP 2002 service pack 3.

No other games or programs are running apart from the O/S. And it will only be used to run Silent hunter 3. as soon as I can get it running with mods I will delete the anti virus and disconnect from the internet.

The problem is the game starts and I get the load screen with the red bar which fills up and then I get a memory error screen and which gives me the option to exit or debug ( which exits me anyway).

I have been over the internet and have set the screen res set at the recommended, I have deleted the two intro movies, I have set to run as administrator, I have uninstalled and re-installed but not in the program file, I have uploaded all the updates and made sure all drivers were up to date ( well up to date as far as an out of date machine can be)

and still the memory could not be read error ?

And yes the copy I have has star force on the disk, but that shouldn't stop it loading... should it ?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thank you :timeout:

Hello Kasper1965 and welcome to SubSim! :Kaleun_Cheers:
Let's fix that problem you have.

System and configuration on your PC is more than enough to run the game. In XP 2002 sp3 should run without any problem.

What is the exact message that you get in loading screen?

Is it happening on fresh installation of the game or you already have installed some mods?

If it says "memory could not be read error" most of the time it's problem with installation, but may be some other thing. Let's find out.:03:

Morning.

Its a fresh install, no mods no saved games. it won't let me play.

Have taken two pics of the process and where it stops, but can't add them here ?

so basically I press the silent hunter icon and the protection programme checks the disk and then it goes to the silent hunter loading page with the red bar, this fills within about two centimetres from the end and then I get;

Sh3.exe-Aplication error

The instruction at "0x0215552e" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read.

click ok to terminate the program
click cancel to debug ( which just terminates the program)

The first set of numbers changes every time I try it?

Cheers

Thanks for the info. Have started to wade through it.

Most seems to involve trying to get the game running on pc with operating system windows 7 and up.

I am trying to run it on an original clean install of windows Xp professional. So it shouldn't require changes to compatibility modes.

cheers

Ok, I think that something went wrong with your installation and I would recommend two things to do.

1.) Reinstall the game completely. Then before installation turn off your antivirus because you already know that copy you have on your disc is safe. Sometimes antivirus programs can do some damage to instalation for some reason. Install game and after instalation dont update it or delite intro videos, just thry does fresh instalation work. If it work than proceed with updates, adding mods, etc...

2.) If fresh installation doesn't work again, and if it is possible for you borrow copy of game from some of your friends and try to install that one and if that works great if not it may be even some hardwer issue that causing problem.

Ok, Update.

I have been through the system and updated graphics drivers and any driver that I could still find even the dvd driver.

I have also uninstalled and re-installed again.

still no joy :wah:

I have also brought another copy of SH3 from ebay, hopefully without the security program. ( its the revival copy) So will wait for that to arrive.

Until then its back to farming sim17 on the other pc. :yeah:

*** Update ***

Hi.

For future reference, the error was caused by a problem with the sound card.

Purchased a new sound card for £5 and problem fixed. no more issues.

Thanks for the help, am now the proud owner of a XP system specifically for silent hunter 3.

Happy hunting

That's good to hear!

Glad you got it sorted out. Now all you have to do is survive a job with a 75% mortality rate. Good luck with that. :salute:
