Post your favorite Christmas Songs!

here is mine!

None of us in present company are strangers to what the world was going through in the Winter of 1944-45. Some of our nations had been at war for 6+ long and difficult years.

Though the Allies had made many advances in the Pacific and Europe, the cost, the toll of the war, was staggering for all sides. People were tired, disheartened, every facet of daily life revolved around the war effort.

A movie premiered in St. Louis, Missouri entitled "Meet Me in St. Louis" featuring the legendary Judy Garland, in one scene, comforting her character's younger sister before the upcoming Christmas holiday, Judy sang what would become an instant classic. it became such an enduring song in part, because it encouraged people to not worry, that someday everything would be better and all of the strife would be a distant memory and we would be reunited with our loved ones wherever they might be... her song was exactly what the people of the U.S. and probably the world over needed to hear. It is my favorite Christmas Song, and i hope in listening to it you could see how important the song would be for the morale of the viewers going to the theater to escape reality of a world at war with itself for a second time in a generation, even if for a fleeting moment.

Enjoy, i look forward to hearing about why you have a favorite christmas song, and hearing it!

That's probably the most poignant Christmas song of all, GR, and it would've been my first choice too.

Second would have to be this, of course:

And why? Well my parents were the war generation, so we grew up with these Hollywood movies.

Acktung, of course you chose The Chipmunks. They are kind of like squirrels.

It's difficult to choose a favorite Christmas song. There are a lot of good, traditional songs, and many good modern songs. Some with a little story behind them.

I'll just leave it here. I don't have a single favorite. I enjoy the season. It's a good time to renew what's good about humanity.

And as far as Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas goes, I agree and greatly dislike the happier lyrics version that emerged later.

Tricky one, I think it's probably this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXCEdrnaFlY

Although, of course, there's Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Bowie and Bings excellent duet, 'Do they know its Christmas?', 'Spaceman came travelling', 'Only a Winters Tale', 'Stop the Cavalry', I'm even partial to a bit of 'Fairytale of New York' if only to try and judge how many pints MacGowan had had before that recording.

Then, of course there's the official British adjudicator of Christmas:

http://www.islingtongazette.co.uk/polopoly_fs/1.1149161.1323361605!/image/4179518050.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_630/4179518050.jpg

It's not actually officially allowed to be Christmas in the UK until at least three things have occurred, 1) The Famous Grouse advert has arrived, 2) The Coca Cola truck advert has arrived and 3) Noddy Holder has declared that it is CHRIIIIIISTMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!

Then festivities may commence by royal decree. :yep:

It's really hard to pick a favorite as our members above have posted some great songs. It's hard to go wrong with big band favorites Glenn Miller or music performed by an orchestra or choir. One of my favorites has always been " the Christmas song " performed by the incomparable Nat king Cole. His silky smooth baritone voice has always ushered in the season for me and I'm sure, many others.

There is also Adeste Fideles ... O Holy Night - Andrea Bocelli and David Foster on Piano. Andrea Bocelli is excellent in everything he does with singing and his arrangements.

Another is We wish you a merry Christmas on pipe organ.

This is another that I have heard performed during Christmas but none better than this rendition. It is from André Rieu and The Johann Strauss Orchestra- Panis Angelicus. The video is HD as well. Fantastic doesn't even begin to describe this song or performance. Mirusia is the featured singer and this was performed in Amsterdam.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tIsTmUOODo

Another is the first Noel perfomed By Celtic Woman. Featured singers are Chloe Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Meav and Orla Fallon, none of whom are still with Celtic Woman. Máiréad Nebitt joins them on Violin. I believe this was performed at the Helix in Dublin, Ireland.

This thread is going fast ... this is my all time favorite, but I have more:
Her mother had cancer and died when she was like four years old ... she is only seven years old in this video.

This song is dedicated to my mommy in heaven Wendi Marvanne. Rhema Marvanne takes on Elvis Presley to record her mothers favorite Christmas song.

Well, my post about the subject:
Many of the Xmas american songs are already here, White Christmas (with I remembering seeing the movie one Xmas, so long ago, with my parents), jingle bells, jingle bell rock and so on.
Also the classical ones like O Tannenbaum and Little Drummer Boy and others; my father normally in Christmas day put the vinyls playings, but there where always some negative voices about it.
Now a great parenthesis: (many of the songs I mention and others, like "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" or something like that, sung by a female voice and others I learned because I play return to castle wolfstein - Enemy Territory. After a few years I returned to the game and had to play in foreign servers and landed in kernwaffe and now in AoS. They have the Xmas maps, during the holliday seasons, with many changes [for fun] and many of the Xmas songs can be played in the server by writing some commands. That now is also a Christmas fun and felling for the time).

About the white xmas, well never had one, my home town only snows 20 to 20 years. The coldest winter is 6 years (+/-) ago with 2º C degrees and now I had 19º C of maximum and possibly 8 or 7 of minimal, with 70% humidity...:shifty: never snow!

This is not a Christmas song but I think it is in the spirit of this thread. It is the story of "the most "wunnerfulest Christmas in these here newnited states." I have linked this video because at ten minutes I think it might too long for this thread.
Be forewarned although this is not a sad tale it might bring a tear to the eye of any ole softies out there.http://youtu.be/j5h4S9A9Nbs
