Hello all, I'd like to say thank you for even having this site, just the poking around has taught me some new stuff, I used to play sub Sims as a kid due to my dad being player as well. I only recently got back into the game with silent hunter 4, and I'd like to say sweet jesus why did I ever stop playing? Happy hunting all.

Further, UBI Soft support, which created the Silent Hunter series has a patch available for SH4 as well. Further, UBI Software should have all the patches you need , free to download.

thank you for the welcomes and I'm thankful for all the information. with the patches due I have to download them in succession or just the final one? and once its downloaded, does the game patch right away or is that something I have to do manually?. yes there is a flood of newb question from me I do apologize.

well downloaded the 1.4 patch tried to run in an it told me sh4 dosnt exist on computer, and on top of that the computer is telling me that the 1.4 file has a invalid signature, and I eyeballed uninstalling sh4 to reinstall it but since its on steam, steam told me I would have to re download it online, and due to limited data, (I'm on a hotspot) I cant see patching sh4 as a feasible thing to do right now. :/

His post is # 4 in this thread and see if that answers your questions. Although your game is SH4 and not SH3, they are both steam applications. I remember reading here that our forum members preferred having and using a DVD copy of the game and not a download. It may be easier to purchase the DVD of SH4 gold version which has the U boat missions.

I'm also wondering if your game is star force protected. There is a star force extractor available. A forum member of ours, Blitzkrieg, has a thread with tools to help you with your installations as well, Redwake. " Blitz " has other tools there so you will have to look through them to see if there is anything of interest. Blitzkrieg and the other " Mod Guru's " here are pretty sharp so don't hesitate to ask for assistance. Peter, " THEBERBSTER " is also a font of information and is always helpful.

This is the site for a star force removal tool. ( sfdrvrem.exe. ) Where you can read up on what it does and download it.

It's in a zip file which means you need an extractor to get the Exe. program. When installing your game, don't install it in the default path but instead, create a game folder and install there. You also never mentioned what operating system you are using which makes a difference as well.

When you download the patch, make a copy of it and store it in another thumb drive or peripheral drive. When you install the patch, it should automatically find your game install and folder and install itself there. It will tell you where it is going to install so double check that. I never tried installing 2 patches and usually the latest patch covers all previous patches so i would just install the 1.4 patch. If you purchase SH4 gold, it should already have everything so there will be no need to install patches.

With regards to Silent Hunter 5, Initially, one had to have a constant internet connection to play. This was because of the Use of DRM's incorporated on the DVD disc.. Now, you need an internet connection to initially set up Silent Hunter 5 and thereafter, you can play SH5 without an internet connection, against the computer. I'm sure if you search the forums here, you will get a better explanation of things. I just don't have any experience with steam applications or downloaded versions of these Simulations. I just know some of our Subsim members had issues with them.

By the way Redwake, Forum member Rockin Robbins has done extensive work with Ubunto / Linux operating system applications. One of the " test beds " has been with Silent Hunter 4. Rockin Robbins is one of our better resident experts on these applications, especially Silent Hunter 4. He knows these applications and SH4 better than most, certainly better than I do. Rockin Robbins should also be able to Answer any questions with regards to these games and Windows 10. My simulations are not on any windows 10 platforms.

I don't know why I didn't mention him in my earlier post except it was an early morning for me and I hadn't had my coffee yet. lol. :03:

I mentioned a few forum members like Rockin Robbins and others and knowing them as I do, I'm sure they would help you or any other forum member as best they can.

It may seem like a lot but it will be worth the time. Hopefully, in the end, you will be able to enjoy your " Sims " the way you like.

I have seen posts of Forum members discussing SH5 and the mega mod, Wolves of steel expansion pack.

Check that out as well if you have the chance.
