Been playing this game for several years but never knew exactly what the crew effieciency numbers meant in the Crew Mangagement Screen. Did not see anything in the manual. Does any one know?

Basically, how well they perform their duties. A gunner might have a "70" rating for Watchman and be active on Deck Watch. So he's decent at 'seeing' stuff. But his Efficiency is only "10", so he might not report what he 'sees'. Or, if you've been at Battle Stations for a while, he's the feller that falls asleep, and next thing ya know, you hear an explosion, the lights flicker and the boat rocks violently as you hear "We're under attack!"... shtinking watchman is having a smoke as a zeke drops one down your sail.

Ok. Thanks. But I'm still a little confused (I am somewhat dense so bear with me). In the game I'm playing now, for instance, I have a Petty Officer 1st Class, whose specialty is watchman. Currently his Efficiency numbers are 37/92(+30). What do those three numbers mean?

There's been a lot of discussion about that. It was left out of the game manual. I don't think anyone really knows what it means. :06:

I do not recall where I've seen the info before, and I don't recall how you influence it too much... but the 37 is where it is now, the 92 is the highest they can go (at this time), and I don't remember if the +30 signifies they're recently gotten that much more, if that's how much it'll increase for the next shift, or what. The dude is apparently on the "maintenance" shift... I ~think~... or else asleep... can't remember - but he's not on the currently "active" crew probably. The "Leader" of the group can affect the "efficiency" of the compartment team, and the individuals in it. Whether you have a crew member in his "proper" slot matters a bit. In other words, if you put a dude with rotten mechanical abilities in the torpedo room, you may have issues with the efficiency of not just him, but the whole room. Likewise, you wouldn't want to put a person with low Watchman ability on the Deck Crew...

As for details of the crew management stuff, I don't know if there's any info that's comprehensive. Do not take what I say as gospel here. I could well be wrong (and a bunch of others on here and the Ubi site too...), and basically just guessing. You'll see the numbers bounce around for no apparent reason most of the time. But try to catch your next shift change, and see what that particular set of numbers you mentioned does...

I never keep or select any crew with 0 Leadership, even if they have 60 on other skills like Gunner, or Watch.

I don't want dumb crew-members, instead I want crew with initiative and foresight (even though these are not 'skills') who can perform their duty's without direction or supervision.

That is the first thing I look at, then I try to match their station with their strongest skill.

How much good this does is a mystery to me. Crew skills may make no difference at all...

Happy Hunting!

Ahhhh, but that watchman up top, looking for planes... the efficiency and the skill of a crew member, both should play into it, if the plane comes on their side of the boat. Lately, I've had the first inkling of an attack when I hear the explosions, some of them ON the boat, and the XO (or whoever) hollering out "We're under attack!!!"... :D No one ~saw~ the plane?... Or maybe they didn't think it was any trouble?... Of course, this is in the beta FotRS Ultimate, and we hope to get things a little more "predictable" before publication...
:salute:

I agree with you 100% on that leadership attribute. very important
