major breakthrough in turning CO2 into ethanol

Seems like there is an easier way to transform CO2 into Ethanol then previous predicted.

The team's experiment was meant to be one part of a longer research project investigating how to turn CO2 into ethanol; the researchers figured the process would require multiple steps and complicated chemical reactions. But it turned out to be a lot easier than they thought: They needed only a single catalyst (copper) to transform the CO2.

From what I know-ethanol does not emit CO2. That is if we build cars, trucks and other vehicle who runs on 100 % ethanol.

In many countries they have added ethanol to the gasolin-unleaded gasolin that is.

And now that they have made a breakthrough in turning CO2 into ethanol, it shouldn't be any problems turning the CO2 from these engine into ethanol.

Furthermore ethanol is not so efficient in ordinary combustion engine-

It has an lower factor 1.84 something.

I was once told that I should divide how far I could get on 1 liter ordinary fuel with 1.84

so if I could get 16 kilometers on 1 liter ordinary fuel I would only get about 9 kilometers on 1 liter ethanol.

Today the car manufactors has created engine that runs efficiently on ethanol.

Every step towards a society where we have cut our live-line to oil, nuclear and other earth destroying stuff, I welcome.

Its still a fantastic step forward as we can harvest some of CO2 from the atmosphere and get rid of the particles.
