The name may not ring any bells immediately, but this man survived a LOT, from being a Japanese POW and working on the Burma railway, to being sunk by a US submarine to being next to Nagasaki when the bomb fell.

To survive all that, and live to the ripe old age of 97, a giant of a man.

RIP Mr Urquhart, and may your wounds be healed.

The whole name didn't ring any bell, the last name did though-"Urquhart" I at once I was thinking of this English General.

RIP Alistair Urquhart

In 2010, Urquhart published The Forgotten Highlander: My Incredible Story of Survival During the War in the Far East, an account of his experiences.
