View Full Version : Proposition 61 is the wrong solution to the problem of high drug prices

Blatant price-gouging by EpiPen-maker Mylan and other pharmaceutical companies has stoked public outrage about the high cost of prescription drugs. Meanwhile, the emergence of a new class of exceptionally expensive specialty drugs has caused budget nightmares for state governments. But in California, even modest efforts to require drugmakers to reveal more about how they set their prices have been stymied by lawmakers sympathetic to the industry.

I can be that there is a protected market, the drug dealer taking advantage of them sometimes high prices, and thus earn black money in front of the authorities, who are well aware of the problem.

When my daughter's Epipen expired, we got a prescription from the doctor for a single dose ampule of epinephrine and a 10cc syringe.
Total cost $4.32.
Fit nicely into the box of the expired epipen too.
Thank you Internet.

Keep in mind that the internet also features counterfeit drugs which have little to no medicinal value and may in fact be dangerous.
Sadly the Epipen you mentioned is marketed mainly for children. Then again, the head of Mylan is none other than Heather Bresch. Heather Bresh's salary rose 600 % from 2007 to 2015. It's sad that a drug manufacturer would put dollars and cents above a child's life.
Heather was a student at WV University in their Post graduate MBA program. Heather received her Masters in business even though she had not completed the requirements for graduation. The President of WVU was good friends with West Virginia Senator, Joe Mansion.
Quote: Bresch’s Father Introduced Her to Mylan’s Former CEO & Was Suspected of Approving a Fake MBA for Bresch as Governor of West Virginia. Although Manchin and Bresch have denied any wrongdoing, the MBA controversy resulted in the provost’s resignation. The school also rescinded Bresch’s MBA. Bresch has said she took the courses for personal enrichment, not to advance her career. This is hardly relevant.

Her Uncle Jimmy was impeached as West Virginia’s treasurer for losing $279 million in state funds through bad investments.

With this kind of family history, It should come as no surprise that Heather Bresch would act in this manner.

Prop 61 is just for California ... love California, but the nation needs to care about what the legal drug dealers are up to :yep:
We are a nation of drug users legal and illegal. We need someone that can lead society to be against the pharmaceutical companies
unjust price increases and the street vendors too (no pun intended vendor :D)
My biggest complaint is druggie parents raising children to be just like them. I think we should build prisons just for them,
not to punish them, but to reeducate them, along with their children in barracks nearby.
We could feed them, house them and teach them all at the same time.
For each drug bust that includes children the state will pay someone 25k a year to take care of that child, per child.
Drugs legal or illegal should be on the debate schedule. How are these new leaders going to deal with the growing problems?

Oh, we get the epinephrine from the local pharmacy. I got the idea for the workaround from the internet.
As for the rest, trust me, we are well aware. :Kaleun_Salute:

People can die because of overinflated drug prices, people, khm, I'm sorry, sacks of crap like her should be trialed for atempted manslaughter or simply murder.
Internet is a dangerous place to order drugs, see if you can get FDA certified and/or check with the FDA before purchase.

I'm glad you and your family found a " work around " to the over inflated pricing. Hopefully other people and families and parents will be able to do the same or Mylan can be made to offer the Epipen cheaper. :Kaleun_Salute:

I agree although it's not likely to happen.

The maker of EpiPen has agreed to pay the government $465 million after overcharging for the medicine

Who is actually running our government/s and it for damned sure isn't the people!
Our latest crop of elected cork sackers here in PA. have taken it upon themselves to stamp out tobacco use by slapping on some exorbitant presale taxes and they're still charging the 6% sales tax on top of it!
I guess the Tobacco settlement money ran out too quickly..
The governor of Maine thinks we should have an authoritarian (fascist) president in the White House.
Why do we keep electing these morons who take campaign contributions from these big corporations and then screw all the little folk afterward?
I don't know about you guys but, I'm getting to the point of taking up arms against the "goody two shoes" and the criminally elected.
The feds were lobbied into forcing big tobacco to create a fire safe cigarette and all it did was make a non-safe cigarette for smoking by adding extra little bands of paper in the tubes. The extra paper is glued on with the same glue used to affix backing to carpet which makes the cigarette go out, unless you're drawing on it constantly. All because some alcoholic dropped his smoke into a waste basket after he passed out and it killed his entire family.
The "goody two shoes" blamed the cigarette.
Every time the government gets involved in anything, they SCREW it up !!!

Would you prefer corporations get involved? That's how we got in to this mess with inflated drug prices in the first place.
A corporation's first second and last priority is to make a continuing profit. To expect them to do or be concerned with anything else is unrealistic.
Given the choice between two bad choices, of corporations or government, I would prefer an inefficient government over a greedy corporation any day.
