Well, just did the most recent Win 10 upgrade (seemed more like a service pack claiming additional features). Now the game won't load even after running in various compatibility modes. It is saying I don't have the correct operating system and prompts me to use Win 98 or XP! A link is also suggested from "securerom" (don't get me started on that issue!) And yes, I'm running in compatibility mode too.
Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and found a fix other than reinstallation?
Thanks in advance.

Nothing has come through on Windows Update for me in quite awhile, I will keep a close lookout for anything that comes my way.

Where is your Silent Hunter installed? ie: "C:\Games\Silent Hunter" or C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter"...
Do you have a dvd version? If so, will it run from when you insert the dvd in the drive?

It's installed in C/Subsims/Silent Hunter 4. The game was purchased as a download shortly after the games release (from I can't remember off hand,) but not Steam. Suppose I could try logging into Ubisoft, but that's another frustrating issue too.
Thanks for any advice, I'm sure I won't be the only other with this issue. Could possibly fix with a reinstall, but hoping to avoid it.

Well, strange.... Tried to open the exe. file inside the folder and the game opened. Then tried using the same icon on the desktop previously working and it then also worked fine.
Not sure what was happening but happily report all is well now.

Windows 10 is like that. Posted from a superior Ubuntu Linux powered computer. That stuff never happens to me. And my game runs faster than Windows. SH4 thinks it's on a Windows XP computer.

I'm running it through wine myself, so I usually don't have any grief either.
A friend wants me to get windows and dual boot so I can play Rainbow Six: Siege.
I told him: "Windows is NOT going on this PC."
Posted from the even greater superiority of a Fedora Linux machine...:O::D:har:
Soundman, I hope it's "clear sailing" from here on.

I too am a Wine user (MacBook Pro) BarricudaUAK. Had to reply, didn't know there was another Wine user. Apologize for interrupting!!
