Back off on my travels once again and yes back to Scandinavia, this time Denmark, Sweden and Norway I covered some old ground while on the trip especially into Malmo and Copenhagen, however the two new areas I did go and find were Gothenburg and Oslo.
Both these cities have naval museums and both have submarines in them, I landed in Copenhagen in the morning and went over to Malmo and re did the transport museum housing the HMSwS U3 and managed to get some outside shots, then returning to Copenhagen for the night to bed down.

My first major stop was Gothenburg this is a cracking city not too busy but plenty of things to see, and it was here that I found the maritime museum not too far from the central station.
The Museum houses the HMSwS Smaland HMSwS Nordkaparen HMSwS Solve and a cargo ship and a ferry.

Now I have to say the Nordkaparen was defiantly a nice visit as there was something on board that I had never seen before very unique torpedo loading system, a revolver type clearly makes the loading easier but at the same time does it work effectively ? answers below.

The Smaland is defiantly a good visit too she was decommissioned in the 80’s along with her sister ship halland and been a museum ever since this is in fact a destroyer (although small) and carries the unusual pennant of J19, her main arm is guns but does carry some missiles albeit 1st generation by the looks of it.

The Solve was a bit disappointing I expected it not to be gutted it just looks like a floating hulk you literally are in and out in 5 minutes but I do think this is due to her being used as a floating oil barge for many years and the cargo ship you can get some nice shots from there for the rest of the fleet including a car ferry, fire ship and lightship.
The ships were all in very good condition and it has to be said that this museum is a good one to visit it will cost around 40SEK to get in but worth the money.
Onwards we go this time to Norway and annoyingly after paying for train tickets we eventually end up on a coach due to works on the line, spending two days in Oslo was a god send although I must admit if you drink or smoke avoid the place like it has the plague !
from Oslo I had to get the train to Moss ten a short hop on the ferry to Horton and then it’s a mile or so walk from the ferry to the museum, the museum is free nothing to pay which is nice, outside is the Kobben class (a modified German type 207) and like the other types that I have recently been in there has to be little difference other than the labelling, what is remarkable is that Poland still has these submarines in active service.
The Kobben class (also known as Type 207) is a customized version of the German Type 205 submarine. Fifteen vessels of this class were built for use by the Royal Norwegian Navy in the 1960s. The class later saw service with Denmark and Poland. The boats

Inside is a Aladdin’s cave of models so be prepared to stay a while inside, and the best part is outside and unfortunately for me I was too early (by about a year) the Frigate Narvik will be open to the public in 2017 but they also have a patrol craft HNoMS Blink which is a treat she is small but clearly packs some punch and indeed served for a long time and are still in service with the Latvian and Lithuanian navies.

After leaving Horton I had to return to Oslo the next day I had to board the DFDS Pearl seaways to head to Copenhagen for home and I must say this is now the whole of Scandinavia’s maritime museums completed (unless anyone can prove me wrong! And please do !!!!)
There will be more coming and this time also further afield too! so stay tuned
