View Full Version : My problems with the SH5 speech recognition Mod.

Okay.... here we go...

Mod is fickle. One time it hears you and understands, the next time it does not. No matter the mic distance.

It recognizes at best 3 commands each new game. It refuses to do things when you ask it to.

The Mod explanation is good. The tweaking explanation less so.
I would not venture there when you do not know programming.

The English mod seems to understand far more than the German mod.
Tried both on my system since I can switch languages.

In part the Speech mod though awesome if it would work fully is faulty at best. Does not mean it is not worth installing it. No matter which confidence level I set it, and I tried all 70, It refuses to understand most commands except periscope depth and depth under keel. And no, I do not have any speech impediment ;)

I find this a pity. My question is, is anyone still working on improving speech recognition in the game ?

I now use, as I wrote earlier, Voice Attack, which binds keyboard commands to your mic. It does not do half what the Speech mod says it can do but at least it works.

So my verdict of the Speech Mod :

I do hope people are still working on a workable version.
It is a pity I know too little about modding at the moment to start working on it myself.

Hi Ashikaga
I am running the English Miltons version of the Speech mod with TWOS and update 16.5 without any problems so far.
I always test first with the speech engine and a few commands.
No setting changes in the game apart from decks awash set at 8.
It is worth printing the reference sheets, 11 pages so you will have a good idea of the set commands.
Some commands although shown can cause ctd's.
I just use it for basic commands and try not to be too clever with it and it works well.

Hey Peter, yes I shouls also print out those sheets.

I prefer the German mod though for full realism and because I am multilingual.
But I cannot find out where my Speech engine goes wrong every time.

I have less problems with tha program I mentioned though I know I cannot use all those commands. Well I could use a lot of them by binding keys to command parameters and then binding the keys to speech but I might do that at a later date.

Ashikaga,
