Hello guys.

For a long time i was thinking of playing SH5 on ultra realism. What i mean is navigating through stars and manually calculating torpedoes etc. But for that, what mods should i use? Does sobers mega mod is enough for that? Also is there some sort of guide about navigating on open seas? So that would be very nice if you guys can send me any kind of information piece i can learn.

Thank you.

I think it is only partly possible.
At least install the entire Wolves of Steel Mod which includes almost everything you need and get The Enigma Mod
which has you decoding your messages.

Star maps are there in the TWOS mod as are other things.

I now play at realtime. Trying not to use the time setting at all.

Makes it quite real though at times boring but that time I pass with dive tests and crew training.

I do have some beef with the sextant though. It does not work the way it is supposed to. True, I get corrected degree readings but my altitude measurement device is not working the way it should.

Also do the four bearing's tutorial, it is great !
(in the TWOS Mod). Just use your navigator's celestial fix as a check whether your calculations were right.

And watch these also. They help :)

Thank you very much for your reply Ashikaga.
What do you think of Sobers mega mod? In terms of graphic mods and content it looked quite nice. But im gonna check the differences between those two and just download the ones which wolves of steel dont have. Also i wanna go for campaing from start to the end with same boat (for more immersion). I heard that in sobers mod its not possible to go from mission to mission (such as from coastal borders to happy times) I hope Wolves of Steel doesnt prevent me doing it.

Thanks again! :subsim:

Hello, Well I do not know Sober's megamod really. Just downloaded SH5 last week and installed the TWOS mod and some small other addons.

But about video quality....

Well....

These Graphics do cut it for me ;)

And that with a 2.33 Ghz dual core, Nvidia 920 and 5 GB RAM ?

Quite good if I say so myself ;)

And if I remember correctly TWOS has no effect on mission to mission. Though of course you will get boat upgrades which real U boat commanders also got.

Hi141
You could use this mod for the VIIB which will take you through the early campaigns.
Compatible with TWOS.
New_ Start_VIIB > Start Your New Career Replacing The VIIA > Enable JSGME (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1819)
You might need to change some settings possibly for the later campaigns I am not sure.
From the VIIA to VIIB you are given the option whether you want to upgrade. Whether you are given this option for the VIIB to VIIC upgrade I do not know as I have never got past Happy Times due to mod upgrades.

I once got lost finding my way into Kiel harbor at night .

I have a simple rule, learned the hard way.

Travel to the harbour inlet or near it. Dive and give the crew some rest, then go into port when it is daybreak. No risk of being overrun by large ships.

;)

That version of the mod is not compatible with TWoS...

Hi Vecko
IIRC I saw you post that a VIIB could be used from the start.
I assumed you mean't that mod.
Peter

Yes, but not that particular mod...

Playing in real time is definitely what I would consider "ultra realism". That's hardcore!

I play in realtime hahahaha. Hilariously boring. Will take me 5 weeks to reach my operating area as far as I can tell now.

Ever seen those Flight sim guys building entire cockpits in their basements and garages with a 360 degree screen ?

Well................

I now need ro build a tiltable bucket over my desk seat filled with seawater
for the occasional splash, dump 2 liters of Diesel oil in my study for the fumes
and not wash myself until I smell aweful as well as not change my clothes for the duration of the mission.
I also need some switchable leak system in my drains which operates at random intervals so that I can rush
to the drains to plug them with wood and a hammer.

Yeah...if you play in real time, say...4 hours a day, 7 days a week, you will complete this game and clock it in the year 2046! :D

The one thing i noticed that its quite difficult to set up and run a mod without a problem. There is tons of tips and things to do. Especially if you installing a mega mod. Just now i installed TWoS with JSGME and i jsut hesitately copied and pasted the Update no 16.5 directly to the game folder, and just copied german voiceover just like that on the folder. Now my game is crashing when i start a new campaing. Removed my game and gonna do a fresh install tomorrow.

Maybe you should check provided video tutorial? If you still cant get it, than you should better go for SH3 or SH4 because their megamods have somewhat simpler instructions... :yep:

If you are unsure about what you are doing a fresh install is always the better opton. Your Config file (in documents) will not change btw and nor wil your TDW file. You can always place your game config, savegames etcetera to another place/folder on your HDD or rename them for later use.

Also be sure to install the German version of the game in the setup screen that will ensure you the voices are German.

Hi 141
The 16.5 update does not go in the game folder.
The update goes in the MODS folder.

G'day Peter...I will definitely be 100 years old before I learn to use that "Attack Disc" competently! SH5 is a great game for old fellas...somewhere in the Atlantic, up on the Wintergarten having a quiet ale as you take in the vastness and beauty of the empty ocean while the sun dips slowly towards the horizon....then you wake up in the morning slumped over your keyboard. :haha:

About this play on ultra realism

1. Divide the computer screen up on your 40-55 " LED-TV

Start the game, when setting course a.s.o you use real navigation maps for that area and real tools of course

It will not be as real, ´cause in the Atlantic or other open sea areas, you would use tools like a sextant and a special clock(forgot the name of it)

You can use the ship's sextant but it is not as good as a real one and misses some of the functionality as well as gives you problems with altitude measurements. Real seacharts are also lacking from the game sadly.

Celstial charts are okay. Course plotting is not too difficult really.
But if you only use your navigator for a check on the fix you calculated yourself it should be okay.

The attack disc is not that difficult to understand really.

Run your mouse around the edge of the screen to check if the UI isn't set to mouse in/out.

I don't think that OFEV may be the problem here...

@ 141st_Alper
If you really want help, you will have to paraphrase your game/mod installation process in details and also to corroborate it with several screenshots of your main game folder, JSGME ect. Two screens with nothing on it certainly can not do the trick...

Otherwise , you're pretty much done here because if you can't track down what went wrong in your installation process (which is quite straight forward if I may add) probably no one else can also with such obscure informations ...:yep:
