View Full Version : Earthquake leaves at least 38 dead in central Italy
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake has struck central Italy, leaving at least 38 people dead and 150 missing, as rescuers search for survivors.
Many of the dead were in Accumoli, close to the epicentre, and a short distance away in Amatrice, which was largely reduced to rubble.
The village of Pescara del Tronto was levelled to the ground and the number of dead was expected to rise.
The quake hit at 03:36 (01:36 GMT), 100km (65 miles) north-east of Rome.

Rgr that.
Strangely enough this quake occurs exactly 1937 years to the day after the eruption of Vesuvius which destroyed Pompeii.
Let's just hope that the death toll doesn't exceed the 2009 quake which had an epicentre in the same area and killed over 300 people.
I wonder if this is related.

Death toll has risen to 247 now Oberon. Sadly, it will probably be higher. Feel so sorry for them over there, to happen at night while they are asleep, they never had a chance.:nope: My heart goes out to them.

Officials have revised the number of dead down to 241 (Thank God for small mercies I suppose) but I fear that number will soon rise again as more bodies are discovered.
I was shocked to see the level of devastation on tv.

Well there is a 1:365 chance of two unrelated activities occurring on the same day/month. Those are not exactly astronomical odds.
Unless there is a significance to 1937 years.
