Hey guys, long time no see. Such a long time in fact that I don't even remember the name or email to my old account, so unfortunately I needed to make a new one, hope that isn't a huge end of the world deal. Anyways I've been around Subsim since Sh3 was released.

My return is due to having watched Das Boot, for the billionth time and deciding to return to Silent Hunter.

Anyways, I remember OM from way back, so I downloaded it and got ready to play, and already I'm having the "I have no memory of this place" issues that also plagued an Old Wizard from another time and place.

I thought there was a course you could plot to make the game auto plot a course through the Kiel Canal, I can't seem to find that.

In regards to that, I can't seem to get the game to allow me to TC past x4 despite having editted the CFG/Main file to 2048. No matter what I do, I'm stuck at x4 whenever I'm near land.

Also giving things a quick look, I can't seem to find the manual targetting display in the periscope. I have instead a notepad that doesn't allow manual input into it.

I'm hoping people can point out how to fix these things, and I pray that I am not just remembering GWX.

Thanks for the welcome back!

I have determined that clearly have done something wrong.

It's wierd the game opens fine, but has vanilla title screen, instead of OMEGU title screen. The game allows me to select a 39 start and load in and drive about but the TDC is missing. Checked a YouTube video and saw what I remembered.

When I installed, I copied the vanilla folder renamed it, installed JGME, and installed. Perhaps I have the wierd addition folder issue? Perhaps I need to rename the vanilla as such and make my OM folder look right?

I don't know, but I knew something was up. Glad to know I'm not crazy.

I'm not at the PC right now, but when I get back to it, I will check those issues out. 8.1 makes it a pain to edit CFG files so that might be the issue with TC. If I don't open Notpad first then open the CFG file through it, it will give me an access denied issue, yay innovation!

I will report back whether or not I solve the issues!

Back at the PC, turns out the OMEGU is a package, ie it contains many folders within it. Wasn't aware of that, so I've dragged the OMEGU proper folders out and am installing them currently. Hopefully that will solve my issue. I've also renamed the original folder to Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific Vanilla, and let the OM installed folder revert back to regular Silent Hunter. So hopefully both of these changes will solve my issues! Will report back briefly!

Well I'm the combination of taking the OMEGU folders out of the OMEGU.pkg folder and renaming the main folder seems to have worked. Not only is the TDC back, but the crew speaks German, and there are some other nice looking mods held within the OMEGU package, ie Harder Escorts and a 16:9 fix.

Its safe to say gentlemen that my issue has become resolved! Nothing feels as good, than having a PC issue and working it out for yourself, well except for maybe sex!

Heads up to those installing OMEGU over OM, the folder labeled "pkg" is just that, a folder that has main folders in it, you need to put the OMEGU folder that does have the "pkg" in its name. I.E when you double click the "pkg" folder and open it, it does not take you to a folder with a Data folder in it. With the way JSGME works the folder set up needs to be OMEGU>Data> that is the only way JSGME can install the mods properly.

Well all of OM and OMEGU works fine but the TC issue is still a problem. I suspect that it is because I moved the CFG file out of the main folder onto my desktop made the original changes and pasted it back into the CFG folder. I don't know which Microsoft guy thought it would be awesome to do the administrative priviliges thing but Holy Christ does he need to be keel hauled. So I'm going to do the dance (uninstall-reinstall) and get the original unmodified CFG file back, and edit it via Open Notepad as Admin, then open that file, then edit it, then save it. Hopefully that will solve my one last issue! Will report back.

Well my suspicions were right (Suspicious Minds anyone?) it appears simply moving the CFG file onto my desktop making the changes then copy pasting it back "broke" the CFG file forcing SH4 to revert back to the old, unedited CFG file of dropping down to 4x when near land. Now I can cruise around at 512x, and I may make it even more now that I know what the issue was.

Oooh... Elvis!

Look in your Windows User Access Control (affectionately referred to as UAC), and you can turn it down a pinch if you want. It does help prevent unwanted invader apps from running off the web though...

Hmmm I might want to leave that alone, got a letter from DC last month that told me they lost my SS# in the latest hack, no point in tempting things.

While I'm still in the same thread, is there a mod that removes the crosshairs from the binoculars? The great thing about SH4 is the ability to customize your own game.

I'm bieng tempted by TMO for fleet boats. Honestly kind of half expected an IJN and RN mod, but that would be too much.

Sadly it seems we sub simmers are not the fortunate son. It's sad that SH is gone, but with the tech we have now, I see a future full of possibilities. One game to cover it all, the whole wish list.
