View Full Version : A in-game problem
Have ended my first mission-the one you start with when you start a new campaign
Clicked on dock at Kiel
The next scene I'm standing beside a sub and two German officers are talking to me.
Then I have to enter my U-122 and meet my new XO
I have been walking around a lot and I can't find a way to this point where I should meet my new XO

Hi Markus
Use the Esc key and exit back to the main menu.
Load the game save showing Autosave Enter Base.
In the bunker go to the officer and request a mission
Use the Esc key.
Make a manual game save.
Exit to the main menu.
Now load the new game save that you made.
In the bunker click on the quartermaster and you can now select your torpedoes and anything else available.
When finished go to the officer and start the mission.
Peter
Thank you it helped
Now I have to learn to work with this TDC cause when I use the "automatic" every torp misses the target(S)
And I'm very bad at doing manually TDC

No mods only clean install and automatic patching to 1.20
My torpedoes take a little turn after leaving the tube-either to the right or to the left before going strait.
When I order the TDC on-I see information about the ship. The only thing that doesn't work correctly is the estimated speed
I saw my TDC-master had set target speed to zero and I could see on the map the speed was 5 knots
So I changed to 5 and missed, then I changed it to 6 and got a hit, next torpedo I let my TDC-master do the calculation-miss, and miss again.
Then I surfaced the boat, thinking on using my deck gun against the target.
Pressed F1 to see which short-key I had to press to use the deck gun -F5 or was it F6 In game I pressed the right F-key and got a message-surface the boat-What-Toke another look at F1-I had pressed the right F-key then I tried with Shift+F-key and Ctrl+F-key nothing happened. pressed the F5 or F6 key again and got the same message again surface the boat.
So I also have to find out how to manually man the deck gun. cause the short-key doesn't work on my keyboard.

To use Auto TDC u need to lock in ur target and then break lock, after this just aim to where u wanna hit and fire.
1º- Lock ur target
2º- Unlock (or break lock, not sure)
3º- Aim and shoot
Ps: if ur target see the torp coming he might try evasive manuvers, full speed and left/right full ruder to evade the torp

The short keys are for ur crew to man the deck gun and fire at any target they find, no for u to teleport to it (unless u have the TDW New UIs)
F5 for Deck gun
F6 for Flack gun
Hope i have helped:D
Tried the solution Kapizi gave me lock-break lock-aim and shoot
Tried it with observation periscope and my attack periscope
No XO assistanse using my observation periscope
Only assistanse using my attack periscope and
My torpedoes missed in both scenarios
lock target engage TDC and get a solution which is totally wrong-distance, range, speed and angle of bow(or what it is called) Distance was 500 meter and speed zero according to this solution while the distance on the map(using my ruller) was about 2400 meters and speed was 6 knots
I could change these settings my self and I tried as I did yesterday, but without any luck
Surfaced the boat and went up to the bridge and get the watch officer to man the deck gun-for about 1 hour I tried EVERYTHING to either get the crew to fire at the target or I manually(by myself) engage the target with the deck gun I pressed F5 and F6 several times and every time I hear-Surface the boat-Surface the boat.
So I have three ways to surface my sub-"R", "F5" and "F6"
I have been thinking "learning by doing"-My TDC-help are novice at the start but gets better as he proceed during the campaign.
Markus
Try this
https://youtu.be/85uhBBE4vWU
Pay atention to the TAI-map when he locks the target and then when he breaks the lock.
I had to start my SH5 because I had to test something.
Surfaced and pressed F5 got the message Surface the boat but I also got an grey icon on the top of my screen and then I used my binocular and pressed the spacebar and would you know-my deck gun crew started to fire at the target.
Then I used the uzo and fired one of my torp and it was a hit.
I just locked onto the target and after the words Target marked I fired a torp.
Markus
By playing and testing I have noticed while submerged and pressing F5 or F6 I get the message surface the boat, while on surface I get the deck gun icon and the gun crew start to fire at the nearest target.
I have however still huge problems with my TDC-assistance
Ran into an English Tanker and used the TDC-range= 500, speed =0-I changed those setting and i missed of course-But as mentioned before I'm very bad at this TDC-thing.
Surfaced to shell it to destruction-The ship fired back at me-Had to submerged.
At periscope depth I used 5 torpedoes got two hit, one with TDC + manually changes and one by chance(not locked).
Surfaced again and used the deck gun for the last kill.
Some hours later I ran into another Merchant again I used my TDC-and noticed he gave me exactly the same solution as I had used against the tanker.
Is this some kind of a game failure ? A TDC that doesn't work
and is there a way to kick this XO and get a new guy ?
And how do i put myself into the seat of the deck gun ?
Markus
To man he deck gun ur self just walk to it and click on it.
About the TDC, i have no clue what is apening.
With auto TDC u should hit 90% of the times.
U have manual targeting enabled, in the gameplay options? If u do it isnt auto TDC.

I have a merchant in my view and under the "windows" I have to options
1- Turn TDC on
2- Never mind
I click on "Turn TDC on" Then I press the spacebar(lock target) and then I get the firing - solution and it is in this solution I keep on getting the same stuff-range 500 meters and speed 0 and it doesn't matter if the target is 5 to 6000 meters away and are sailing at 8 or 10 knots my XO give me 500 meters and speed 0.
That is what I don't understand
Edit Have checked my game settings and the little square before manual targeting enabled is unmarked

When ur XO asks "Turn TDC on" just ignore that, then folow the steps i said above
1°- Lock
2°- Unlock
This is what i do, if u r using TDW New UIs TDC ask for ur XO to identefy the target for u, if not use the Advanced Shift Keys mod and use Shift-I(i) to identefy it.
Again hope it help.:yeah:
Edit: Advanced Shift keys mod

Another question
I have been walking from the one end of the sub to the other end to find another stair beside the one in the control room and I couldn't find any
I did this after I had read this
"To man he deck gun ur self just walk to it and click on it."
I can enter the bridge but I can not walk or transport myself to this point(Deck gun or the F6-thing)
So how do I walk to my deck gun or how do I transport my self to it ?
A second thing which are a big hope
A patching where they put a "school" into the game as we have in SHIII and SHIV where you can practice manually targeting under secure situation and other stuff.
Markus
On the tower u will find 2 stairs ( 1 on each side) that lead to the deck
On the tower u will find 2 stairs ( 1 on each side) that lead to the deck
Thank you :salute:
Tried it out, but the way you are so to say third person standing beside the deck gun is not what I had expected I thought it would be like using the deck gun in SHIII or some of the other SH games.
I have seen this youtube video a few times by now and it seems like he is using calculating chances- Lock to get a torpedo-path then unlock(break lock) to change the path of the torpedo.
I'm doing the same-Lock to get a path then unlock. Then I use my attack periscope(I don't know how he manege to change the direction of this white colour) I can only change it by turning my Attack periscope from left to right or viceversa and then make a calculated chance.
I have read in the manual and tried to find some kind of tutorial videos on youtube. This to find out why my XO are very very bad at this targeting thing.
Either he give me the same solution as always-range 500 meters(and it doesn't matter if the ship is 15,2,25 or 3000 meters away) and he keep on saying speed 0.
Or does he need two "marks" one lock then down periscope and after about 3.5 minutes periscope up and a new lock on target to get a correct solution ?
Have just been playing and I tried this manually targeting-made changes in the solution my XO gave me and of course it was a miss(I said I'm bad at this) Had to dive and run away. Some days later I ran into an lone merchant and locked on to the target and my XO gave me the same solution as I had used some days before(in the game)
I have clean install-patched to 1.20 NO MODS
Here in my thread someone wrote using automatic targeting would result in 90 % hit, not in my sub world and I wonder why-I have unmarked(is that the correct English word) the "use manually targeting" in my game setting.
On this patrol I have used every torp and got two hit(good chance hit). Only by using my deck gun I got two merchant.

When u ger the XO firing sulotion you ARE NOT using Auto TDC.
To use Auto TDC when you get the XO message
1. Turn on TDC
2. Never Mind
Select 2. Never Mind.
Why?
Because this will let your crew do the firing solution, wich will be correct about 85/90% of the times.
To use the sight in the deck gun, in the upper left part of the screnn u will se a binocular, tap it (u need to be in the deck gun OFC)
U will get a sight with a mil scale, when u get the it to 10 it means the gun is ranged for 1000 meter.
Hope it help.

Hi Markus,
Sounds like you’re having a spot of trouble with the TDC, Ok let’s see if I can help.
Remember “Manual Targeting “, means what it say’s!!, YOU have to input all the information that the TDC needs, you cannot just point at the target with the periscope and get a solution.
The TDC needs four (4) pieces of Information :- Speed, Range, Bearing, Angle on the Bow.
Some of these things you may already know but please bear with me. Ok you need to get yourself into a good firing position, Ie , ahead of the target and at approx 90 degrees to the targets path.
Now I’m not saying this is the best or right way to do it but this is my way,,, I take it that you have ‘Constant Map Update’ turned on, So using the ruler tool draw a line from slightly behind the target through it’s length and slightly passed your sub. This will give you the path of the target, Note! You may have to adjust this due to target drift. Position you sub at approx 90 degrees to the targets path and approx 500m away.
Now let’s input some information. To do this you need to click on the highlighted words under you scope glass this will bring up various menus. The orders in which the information is inputted is not that critical so don’t worry to much about that. Also remember that target identification is most important so take some time to get this right as this will affect range calculations by the TDC, + torpedo depth settings. (Pause game if necessary).
BEARING, this one is easy, with TDC ON point the scope directly at the target, all the time the TDC is on and you are pointing at the target this information is feed to the TDC.
RANGE, with your target identified place the horizontal line in the scope at the bottom of the target where it meets the water, (can be tricky in rough seas), click on range, then click on ‘use stedimeter’ this will create a shadow image of the target and scope line, move the shadow scope line up to the height of the mast (I tend to just use the flag as a reference) and click again, this will calculate the range. PS always remember to click the word ‘Back’ to exit any of the menus.
SPEED, using the method I described in RANGE make 3-4 range calculations over a period of 3-5 minutes if possible, but you must pick the exact same spot on the target mast (flag) each time, click on the word speed and then the word ‘calculate speed’. This will give you a target speed. OR just place your mouse over the target in the map and input it yourself.
ANGLE ON THE BOW (AOTB), now this one got me confused at first, this is NOT the angle at which YOU see the target, but the angle at which the TARGET would see you if you where surfaced. Click on AOTB, you can make a rough guess here yourself if you want but to get it right using the protractor tool on the attack map click a good distance ahead of the target on its path line, then click directly on the centre of the target then finally click on your sub, this will display an angle and that is what you input into the TDC, +/- 2 degrees is ok. (don’t forget to click back to exit menu).
Now as your target draws ever closer you don’t need to worry about speed as this is unlikely to change and the bearing as this is constantly updated by the TDC. I recommend that you update range and AOTB as often as possible as these setting will constantly change somewhat. You may also notice a faint yellow line in the attack map, if all inputs are good this is the path your torpedoes will take so no need to give any ‘Lead’ when firing your fish,,, just keep the target in the cross hairs of the scope and use shift/spacebar to fire..
GOOD LUCK...........
Hi Fuzzyduck
After having followed Kapizi advice on how to use the TDC lock and wait for the words tracking target, then unlock(break target) and shoot.
I get about 80-90 % hit ratio.
As mentioned earlier in this thread I'm searching for some youtube videos where someone have made manually targeting-tutorial or some page where a person have taken a picture after each little thing he or she has made before firing the torp.
I have somehow problems to adapt from reading, I know people are doing a great job taking their time writing, but I'm a person who learn best from either watching a video or page where there's picture followed by text.

Thank you :salute:
I was waiting for him to measure the speed, He used the map update.
I remember something about making a mark on or around the target and then take time(3 to 4 minutes) and then something more.
But I got the angle of the bow more clearly now.

Carry on :salute:
I use this old thread ´cause it's a game play problem
I'm on patrol outside the English coast and I have to sink 50.000 tons of cargo ships I got so far about 177.000 tons and I still get the message Incomplete
Is this a bug in the game ? If yes is there a fix for this ?
Markus
Yup thats a freaking anoyng bug.
Dont now how to fix it but the berbster or any other old skipper know
