Any tips?

TF is, I think, lingayen landing group, returning to Taiwan (horde of DDs, 3+CAs and multiple transports.

I tried to let them come over me (sitting at 350ft, silent running obviously), and it worked well, the front DDs passed me, a single CA and transport too. I thought, ok, it's time to go and shoot. So I moved to periscope depth, between two convoy lines.

But as soon as I passed thermal layer, I got pinged by multiple DDs. And they all at once attacked. CA I hoped to attack started manevrouering making it imposoble to hit (at least with my manual targeting skill, even though I had solution partially done).

What class sub where you in? Myself, I would have attacked from either the port or starboard beam and shot from long distance to give myself enough time to go deep and avoid the pyshic DDs in TMOv2.5.

TMO DDs are tough no matter where you are in the war. :yep:

I'm in Sargo (Seadragon to be precise).

Long range atack in night is terribly difficult for me due to super dark skies, no matter what the weather is. I'm not even sure if it is not darker when sky is clear...

And side protection DDs move some 2k jards from main column.

Oh, well, I decided to move to the other side of patrol area where I found a second, smaller landing group (3 Kuma/Nagara CLs, multiple DDs and 10-12 transports, moving north from Appari area. This time they were moving in two groups - DDs and CL clustered good 4 miles forward and the convoy protected by single DD. This time I sunk 2 transports, with only minimal enemy interference.

It is actually strange that DDs do not react at all to ships being torpedoed, as long as my sub is outside their vision area but as soon as I penetrate it, no matter on surface or 350ft deep and how silent, they run amok...

It's also funny that this absurd formation (with escort escorting themselves, not transports) appears logical in campain context, as during first patrol I sunk 2 Kumas from identical convoy sitting on anchor outside Appari. It looks like this time they are protecting valuable assets rater than easily replaceable merchants :D

Try tracking the the invasion force till dawn and with the the daylight you shouldn't have any trouble attacking from long distance. I've done this many times myself.
