Hi All,
I u/g to Win 10 and all 4 of my SH3 variations ran until 2 days ago. They started to crash during loading. Something must have changed. The only clue I have is my system restore showed me that M/S have installed Directx but I can't find how to reverse this. Running system restore doesn't complete as it says I have A/V programs running, even though I have stopped them. I already had DX up to 12 installed so why would anything else be installed? I've tried compatability mode but it just allowed SH to load a bit further before it crashed.
I sure would be glad of help as I have used SH3 with all it's variations ever since day 1 and still prefer it to 4 or 5.

You agree to have your 'free' operating system remotely controlled by Microsoft, but ask non-Microsoft people to debug your system?
Please understand that Win 10 comes with some costs you obviously didn't realize at first. MS is switching from selling windows to supporting windows.
You bought Win 7 and are able to use it forever. No more money in it for MS. Some gifted folks are able to provide support for free. Some sort of socialism online.
You've got Win 10 for free - but they are able to bug your system every so often and ask you for some compensation, for their support in debugging your installation.
A constant money flow with granted growing profit totally under control of MS.
You are the product now, you make their money. And you donate all your data - you don't even know what data - to MS. They will use it/sell it to interested entities to rule you.
Whoever knows you - your dreams and fears, your interests and aversions, your political beliefs, your sexual orientation, your financial capabilities... is able to provide you with the information seemingly most apropriate in their interest.
Advertising is only one form of information - to be shown to you, or to be hidden from you.
Who controls your screens controls your perception, your reality, your motivation - controls you!
Edit: found a missing 'p' in the ocean of spelling errors. Please moor at the proper position.

Hi there RR. Assuming your original operating system is Windows 7 (like mine), then the Microsoft adverts urging us all to upgrade to Windows 10 also states that you can revert back to Windows 7 within 31 days I think.
Never tried it myself as I was warned by a computer savvy friend to never accept this 'free' upgrade.
By the way ; he works in a huge Aerospace factory (I did as well) and he told me that ALL of the IT departments and so on, HAVE to use Windows 7. Windows 10 is banned !.........says it all really.
Worth a try anyway mate, good luck with it.....Andrew.

Mittelwaechter,
You did it twice...
You put the words "Microsoft" and/or "WIndows"/"Win" in a sentence, with the word "Free".
I believe the laws of physics, mathmatics and logic, explicitly state that this event can not, in fact, happen.
However, I do like your highly inventive example of a Contradiction.

ridgewayranger,
google:
windows 10 how to uninstall updates
I found several sites that have a step by step on how to block and/or uninstall the updates. Some in WIn10 itself, some on how to downgrade back to WIn7, etc.

This, of course, is a downer to all of us who , due to the very old age of our own systems, went out and purchased computers with the WIN 10 planted inside.
While I have had few difficulties with this system as it operates as a normal e-mail/search engine/ communication, and even, for the most part, gaming product [ the vanillas of all SHs run fine on it ], I am somewhat more concerned of the inability to download the iconic GWX and experience it in decent running order while on this system.
I would be most interested , [ as I and many players are not otherwise computer savvy where such things as mods are concerned ], in viewing an upgraded YOUTUBE video tutorial of a successful download of GWX to a WIN 10 platform ].

Try right clicking and choose run as administrator.
When MS starts doing a yearly Upgrade for 10 it will cost you to download and install it. That's how they will continue to take you money. Nothing is "Free" anymore.
I had 10 and did not like it one bit. With the problems I've had with 8.1 I'm getting to the point where I do not like it either. I've never run 7 but I'm sure contemplating getting it. But as soon as I do MS will probably do what they did with XP... cut support for it. And that will force a move to Mac.
This makes me laugh. Go to a Microsoft Store and look around. What is it you do not see? Then go to an Apple Store and look at what you do see.
Do you know that one thing is?
We have both MS and Apple stores in our local Mall so it's easy to see what the answer to the question is.
GT182 Win 7 support ends 2020.
GT182 Win 7 support ends 2020.
Thanks Dave on that.
It sucks but at least there's still over 3 years left to run it. By that time I might not even be on a computer. If so I'll probably go with Apple. MS has cooked their own goose with 10 and it being the final OS they build. I can't see them going that way but I guess it's possible 10 is the last.
Windows 10 is the last Windows OS they will build but, they are working on a Linux OS build.
There's a piece of software that lets you play Windows based games on Mac. No idea what it's called. Not sure if there's software that lets you play Windows based games on Linux OS.
No matter what OS, there will always be hacks on it or virus attacks. If not now, it will eventually happen sometime in the future.
I was told that even tho there's no support for XP, it's probably safer to run now seeing 99% that ran XP are now running a newer Windows OS. Hackers and those making virus software have moved on from XP to exploit 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.

I'm just going to throw this out there, I'm probably wrong. You say that one of Win 10 update installed a new version of DX on your computer. Have you tried reinstalling DX 9.0c since this happened. Maybe the new version of DX overwrote you previous version of DX 9.0c. It might help and it might not, but you've got nothing to lose by trying it.
