Yeah I know, this has been raised a million times before BUT is still to be corrected properly.

Can someone (anyone) create a mod that DISABLES all aircraft? OR a mod that drastically reduces the frequency and absurd number of aircraft?

Please don't tell me to download that websters mod either, did that and installed it and it doesn't work, in fact, it made the attacks worse!

This would be a great sim if it were not for the very unrealistic air attacks. There should be an option for turning them off. Frankly, the air attacks make this game anything BUT enjoyable to play.

No mods that turn off the planes (yet) that I remember. There are a couple that will alter what you encounter, but their names slip my mind right now. You could go to the download section and read through some of the ReadMe files of what's listed, and see if you can find one. You could also try a site search for airplane behavior.

What "mode" are you playing the campaign game in (Easy, Normal, Hard, etc.)? The Patrols & Single Missions don't have settings like that, but are more and/or less difficult based upon the scenario.

Are you running with any other mods right now? Where are you with your boat when you encounter all the planes? They can come from land-based and ship-based locations (naturally). If the sea is relatively calm, it's daylight, and you cruise around on the surface, or even at periscope depth at times, they will find you. Once they find you, they will "track" you. If they find you two or more times, they basically have you pegged as to where you are, and where you can be in a given time, to try and find you again. Subs can only go so fast...

Have you read any of the "avoidance" posts or watched vids like Rockin Robbins tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hidf8p64_CE&feature=youtu.be)? There's a text and picture tutorial, where you draw a circle (of which I forget the dimensions of) and you use that to figure out how close a plane can get to you before you dive. It uses radar too. Also, you do have to be careful of your time compression, especially after they've found you the first time. Don't try to duke it out with 'em though. Don't let 'em see you.

Try this ittle mod:
SubSoWesPac Air Strike Mod

My biggest complaint about Silent Hunter 4's enemy airstrike configuration is that there are too many night attacks. While Japan did have competent night fighters in its arsenal, they were principally used as interceptors. In all my years of playing the original Silent Hunter, I did not ever come under attack by an enemy airplane at night and I do not recall reading about frequent night attacks against U.S. boats in the Pacific by Japanese aircraft, unless the boat was close to a Jap air base and its radar was detected by the enemy.

I have made my own modification to the game's "AirStrike.cfg" file. The sole change reduces the Night Strike Probability by 90% to 0.005, from the default value of 0.05. There are no other changes. All other values are unchanged - they are the same as the ones in the un-modded Silent Hunter 4. On my system, the AirStrike.cfg file is located at the following path.

\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Cfg\AirStrike.cfg

The file is v1.5 and JSGME friendly"On this page toward the bottom:

You can also edit your own "AirStrike.cfg" file with Notepad - NOT Word.

Happy Hunting!

Bingo! What a site, such people! Anything an Australian marsupial (or 125cc dirt bike, whichever the case may be) could ever want to know about Silent Hunter (all versions +) can be found in this neighborhood, just by asking...

btw, welcome to the forum wombat

Wombat, I'm surprised that you've problems with air attacks in the Pacific. For fleetboats, you have SD radar early in the war so Jap planes shouldn't be a problem.I can't understand if your problem is the frequency of air attacks which isn't true IMHO. Only in Operation Monsun with Traveller mod there's a great and constant nuisance from air.
